nostr:npub18kzz4lkdtc5n729kvfunxuz287uvu9f64ywhjz43ra482t2y5sks0mx5sz wondering what is your hosting solution for cellar.nostr.wine?

- Does charging 1 SAT per note per year cover your costs?

- Do you pay egress or other fees aside from storage?

- If I were to look for a similar fee structure, what host would you recommend for ease of setup and maintenance?

#noob question re:

Choosing a host for #nostream.

What’s the advantage of using railway, aside from easier install?

- is DB maintenance easier?

- is it easier to update code & DB?

- is there a useful dashboard that I wouldn’t get otherwise?

Comparing to a linode install (following instructions from ZBD blog post linked to in the Readme.) which:

- can pay w/bitcoin (via reseller)

- doesn’t require linking to my GitHub

So far nostr:npub1n0stur7q092gyverzc2wfc00e8egkrdnnqq3alhv7p072u89m5es5mk6h0 is my client of choice. Search functionality far surpasses nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955. Can customize multiple #feeds from different #relays. Can create and award #badges.

However I do wish…

- Navigation buttons would not disappear! (left sidebar icon, settings icon, new post button … I have many times lost my thread or draft post just to go back and find these.)

- Save draft post (even just locally?)

- choose which relays to post to.

- links in bio would render as such.

- select and copy text.

Gonna learn everything I can about launching and managing not one, but an ever growing family of private relays for libertarian chapters, campaigns, and caucuses at vote.gold.

Conversations are ephemeral, broken by the reality of living. But they don’t have to be lost, as they are so easily on nostr ATM.

Passing chatter is fine for water cooler talk, but in the age of digital content … I want to have more tools in for tracking, recovering, and linking to (reassembling) important con⁤⁣versation bits into new and evolving conversations.

Social is nice, but productivity is right around the corner. (In the sense of that’s what people want to do, after having shared social conveniences)

Let’s keep conversational productivity in mind as we build nostr user experiences.

Just created two badges for Vote.Gold users, using the AWESOME bages.page by @karnage & @verbiricha.

The FIRST badge is available right NOW for anyone who wants a VERIFIED nostr name@vote.gold.

The SECOND badge will be available when our PRIVATE relay creation tool is launched... coming soon for libertarian chapters, cmpaigns, and caucuses.

https://badges.page/b/naddr1qq88vmm5v4nk7mry94hhwmn9wgpzphm8lxn7gyf9w3wtu7k0hhxsx6ghsrry8hmm44c0t5ss3uk5lssqqvzqqqr48ygjy3kf

Also useful feature for private group or individual relays… having a group profile or single page websites to highlight content and and people from said relay.

Lots of talk about private communities!

IRL private communities need public web pages to promote themselves.

nostr:npub1kuc70777tsvj67fl75s2dmy376t97hv05xmyuyshzzy6vhj5q5jstv0eyw wd love to send people to nosta.me for onboarding to nostr. (That is … until my client at vote.gold is launched). Because of the heavy (over?) emphasis on key management (memorization test?) unfortunately I do not. Just saying… I am not gonna put my friends through that.

If nosta implemented some version of “let me worry about keys later” … it would be one step closer to handling the onboarding tidal wave that is to come for nostr.

Let me know how I can help.

This is perfect.

Because nosta.me is where many are sent to first create their user profile, it honestly could be better in this onboarding experience. May be a good place to start suggesting improvements.

Hey, welcome! Most of our relay backends are powered by Strfry (https://github.com/hoytech/strfry) and we run various custom websockets/applications in front of them for different use cases.

We have some docs that generally explain the methodology/purpose behind our various relays and products here: https://docs.nostr.wine/

Let me know if you have other specific questions in the future!

Your with nostr.wine ! Sorry for my noobness (and I do get excited about the silliest things) but I am literally just now reading up on docs.nostr.wine. (My posts seem to have no reach, and I’m shopping for a paid relay)

Thanks for the help. I’ll keep in touch.

I have been a “closeted” libertarian for many years. Slowly, after exposing little bits of myself here and there, online and IRL, it becomes obviously futile.

The only real concern for me, in having anonymity, is gov actors with hidden agendas.

Drug bust trauma lingers from my twenties. Undercover agents busted me for a single joint. They threatened jail time for my first and only offense. (those were the days!).

Spooks the shit outa me, but not much I can do if they really wanna know.

Best I can do now is manage my public reputation as a peaceful anarchist!

“Private groups” are on a lot of people’s mind. (As a serious real world use case of nostr) I’ve reviewed a couple proposed NIP architectures that try to accomplish this : gift wrap using either individual or shared keys, depending on “size” of group.

IMHO, having two “kinds” of groups will be a UX disaster.

As a nostr noob, I don’t expect my ideas are all that great. But I did read ALL the documentation of these proposed NIPS and might have found a simple and overlooked solution. (Maybe the start of one…)

A “Gift Bag” type of “Gift Wrap”

It’s a feature not a flaw.

People need an open and decentralized identity management system, that plays well with Bitcoin payments?

You bet cha.

The current status is here: https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/issues/717

(draft) NIP 24 is good for small-scale groups. My draft nip 87 (or 112) could work for larger groups, but lots of detail still needs to be hammered out.

Thank you for sharing.

Can’t help but thinking a better solution exists that doesn’t require two group types. Fundamentally, this is a bad idea for end user experience. IMHO

If we all agree that shared keys are less good for any group, and that client “work load” is the only problem to solve for the nip-24 “many gifts” version to scale to large groups … then why not just solve THAT problem?

So, i slept on it, fully expecting a novel (and possibly noob) solution to just “pop” into my dreams. Don’t judge, it actually happened that way.

Good morning.

If “need for moderation” is an identifier of “large groups” then let the moderators unwrap a “gift bag” and distribute the workload of wrapping gifts.

- In a group were “moderators review every post” (recommended setting for larger groups), new messages are delivered wrapped in a “gift bag” only to moderators.

- “Gift bag” could be a type of “gift wrap”, with a list of recipients at the seal or rumor level.

- each moderator (not having “away”status) receives a “gift bag” with a subset of group member pub keys in the recipient list.

- moderators are charged with opening the messages promptly (and possibly marking as either “naughty” or “nice” )

- when a gift bag is opened, the client gets to work gift wrapping the message for each group recipient in the list.

- when the last “gift bag” is opened for a given message, the entire collection of gift wrapped messages are delivered to the rest of the group.

That’s the idea so far.

Useful or useless?

Thanks. Indeed, I recognized right away that private (encrypted) groups chats will be a pivotal feature to develop for this project. I also have seen a few implementations, and none yet in the official NIPs. Like this one

https://oi5l5umbjx.feishu.cn/docx/TW7Ndb6Imoj3n7x08MTcleqanad

From denostr… which is a client and a relay seemingly built around this feature. But nobody uses denostr, and the repos are baren of commits.

So yea…

What’s I the state on encrypted groups, and how do I get on the RIGHT ground floor?

Loved listening to you on Curious DK the other day. I know that was months ago in your reality, but I’m a nostr noob. The last couple weeks I’ve spent catching myself up on the nostr technology and community.

https://podverse.fm/episode/Z-yaFxJA8

Wanna know how best to build this app I’ve been dreaming of for years. Check out my splash page.

https://vote.gold

Only now, maybe NOSTR is ready for real world applications, using relays and clients to build actual communities IRL. That’s what I wanna do for libertarian party chapters, campaigns, and volunteers for the upcoming 24 election cycle.

NOSTR would be perfect, if I can get a relay and client up and running. I have decades of dev experience, but as a nostr nobody, I’ll need direction from experienced dev plebs to make this happen in my “spare hours” and with zero budget.

Thanks for any advice you may have.
