I don't really watch TV or tolerate any advertisement based media, but of the maybe 4 presidential political ads I've seen, it seems what they are saying on both sides is:
"I hope to God you people are stupider than I am"

So if a company wants to split their stock, from 50 shares to 100 shares, the person that used to have 1 share, now has 2. They've made MORE, but the current holders haven't lost anything.
