Into Bitcoin since July 2011. Into Nostr since February 2023. Influenced by the works of Ayn Rand, Murray Rothbard, Ludwig von Mises, Andrew Galambos - and thought-provoking books including: The Sovereign Individual, How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World, The Path of Least Resistance, PT - The Perpetual Traveler. Professional drummer in my earlier life, digital nomad in my later life, and jazz lover most my life. We won't achieve meaningful freedom until four key "separations from the state" are done and dusted: Separation of church and state (mostly done), separation of money and state (in progress), separation of communication networks and state (early encouraging signs), separation of education and state (a long way to go).

I've looked at NostrGram a number of times and it certainly seems feature rich, but I'm no fan of black screens and white text. Any chance of an option to switch to a light display version, like in Iris?

VPN use is very popular in China, especially for those who value interacting with "outside" services. Given that, accessing Nostr via one of the web-based clients - like Iris, Snort or Nostrgram - won't pose much of an issue. App stores is another thing though.

Here's a little zap to keep you happy 😎

Agree that Nostr is a natural fit for bitcoiners and it offers a lot of benefits to us. However, given the "unique sales proposition" of Nostr is that it's a social network without corporate or government oversight or control, it will ultimately appeal to anyone who values such fundamentals.

It may not be for "normies", but there is a large enough global base of potential users to make Nostr significant. Not only that, but the "Twitter-like" experience we see how is just one dimension of what is possible using the Nostr protocol.

Having tried nostr.social and nostrgram on my desktop I am sticking with Iris which offers me what I want and need - clean, logical and well laid out.

How can we learn from the past if we rewrite it? It would be as though no progress was ever made. Not to say there isn’t progress left to make, there’s so much, too much! But the record of our wins and losses, the lessons depicted in them, the strategies passed on through generations disappear. We are moved back to start.

What respect do we show historically brilliant artists the respect they earned it life by modifying the intent in their death? Augustus Gloop WAS fat. That was the point. The archetype was gluttony. It is an adjective. I’m insulted a slur is being protected on what the author did NOT intend it to be, but one of countless ways his gluttony caused him trouble. What should be censored here? What is so scandalous? Gluttony does lead to becoming overweight. This is not opinion, it’s fact: Relevant to the character development Roald Dahl put forth and a significant catalyst in the lessons he imparts on the reader through the story. Fat is now charged to… enormous? Help me understand how that’s better? Better enough to justify rewriting the work of this renowned author.

Oompa Loompah’s were described as “tiny”, “titchy” or “no higher than my knee,”… now it will just say “small”. Oompa Loompas were ORANGE. They are a made up thing. How bland is this clever writing now?

I’m furious over this, I predict it becoming normalized and that scares me. I will be ranting about this for a while I can tell so just a heads up.

Anyway, mood:

Maybe "original" unchanged copies of all changed books will be valuable in the future as collectibles.

Rewriting the past is so "1984" Orwellian and I'm 100% against it.

Twitter is for arguing. Nostr is for collaborating.

Want to stack your Lightning wallet so you can Zap with abandon? Here's my free sats "double deal" for today. No double-dipping though, you can only claim ONE of them. 😎

Deal 1: If you have 100 followers or more and are one of the first 10 people to REPOST this message you'll receive 2000 sats.

Deal 2: If you're one of the first 30 people to REPLY to this message you'll receive 500 sats.

Using Iris on the web, my iPhone battery drained fast using Damus - so switched to using their desktop version on my laptop.

Your Nostr experience depends on who you follow. Right now bitcoiners appear to be making up the majority of early adopters, but that will change. No doubt all sorts of people, with varied interests, will discover Nostr and broaden the usage base.

Sorry, no lightning link in your post/profile

500 sats paid! You just made it as the 20th and final payment!

After a week on nostr I'm sold on Iris. As someone who spends most time on a laptop I appreciate the clean and logical web interface that Iris provides. I have also spent time on Damus, NostrGram and Snort Social, but I keep coming back to Iris for my main usage.

My second choice is Damus for use on my iPhone. That gives me mobile access when I want it.

Unfortunately you are a few hours late and all 10 claims were fulfilled. However, I repeat this process often so there's more to come. 😎

I know what you mean. My followers count jumps around all over the place. Right now Iris is showing I have 145, while Damus is saying I have 199.

Sorry you missed out this time, but keep an eye out for my future sats giveaways. 😎
