I said ever since Obamacare and the MLR law with no price cap healthcare costs shot way up. There are many factors besides the MLR law why that is, people without health insurance using the ER as their primary causing people with health insurance to offset the costs of people without health insurance, no free market to know what anything costs within the healthcare field. Yes, health insurance is broken within the US but healthcare is by far the best out of anywhere in the world. I was on Obamacare just this past year and it was $383 a month with a $15,000 deductible. I have no preexisting conditions. Insanity!
It was a lot more affordable. The MLR rule just made healthcare costs explode. It’s part of the reason there is no market price for any medical procedures. Ever called a hospital and asked how much a hip replacement, getting stitches, or any type of medical procedure would cost if you paid cash? Most won’t be able to answer because it’s not a free market because of the MLR rule. If we were able to go back to a free market in healthcare procedures, where hospitals had a list of costs for various procedures, eliminated the MLR rule, you’d see healthcare costs plummet overnight. The MLR rule was the death of affordable healthcare costs in the United States. Until it’s repealed or there is a cap, healthcare won’t be fixed in the US.
It’s actually the opposite. Healthcare is expensive because of Health insurance. Under Obamacare the MLR rule became law. The 85% rule, also known as the Medical Loss Ratio (MLR) rule, is a regulation that requires health insurance companies to spend at least 85% of premium dollars on medical care and quality improvement in the large group market. But there is no cap. So everything was inflated price wise so health insurance companies could make more money, but staying within the MLR rule. Having no cap on costs was a big debate before, during, and after Obamacare was passed.
Healthcare isn’t broken in the US. It’s the best in the world. Health insurance in the US is a broken mess.
