I'd say both have declined, but probably for unrelated reasons. In terms of bitcoin folks- there are just way more people now, and the reasons for newbies toi be interested in bitcoin are different as well. The conversation becomes less nuanced and interesting. "woohoo lets all get rich" is a fun meme, I get it.
eg, r/Bitcoin is more or less an unironic wallstreetbets now lol
Hmm I guess I miss connecting with more bitcoin folks, and the interactions on other platforms have declined in quality over the years. nostr seems more of what I'm looking for, I just haven't had as much time for it as of late.
Haven’t opened up Damus in a while, updates are looking good! What’s going on tonight nostr people?

The largest bitcoin UTXO to ever exist (in BTC terms): 500,000 BTC!
Cast iron or stainless steel.
Learn to use them properly, and you’ll never need a ‘non stick’ pan again.
hello nostr, what is new and exciting around here? I haven't checked in much lately, show me the latest and greatest nostr things
I think an issue is that people handle passwords in ways that you wouldn’t want to handle an Nsec. It’s an analogy that sorta works, but also can cause security nightmares for users when taken too literally. Nuance isn’t easily & widely conferred.
I guess all of this is to say: don't be afraid to dive in and get dirty setting up your own bitcoin infrastructure. It isn't super easy, but it isn't super hard either. Plus these days there is a whole spectrum of 'easier' node solutions out there if you really want (though building from source will most likely leave you feeling extra accomplished 😛).
If you haven't yet, what are you waiting for? Get your node online!
The same goes for LND, after setting up channels from the command line, I wrote a simple 'shortcuts' SSH script on my phone that would pay any lightning invoice copied to the clipboard. Worked great, until my LND node broke for other extraneous reasons 😥
Is it strange that I have not once ever opened up the bitcoin-core GUI? I've only ever run it off the command line (I'm technically inclined, but not a super-coder-wizard by any stretch of the imagination).
Just saw this on Reddit: the latest OSX includes a copy of the bitcoin whitepaper. Just run this command in terminal to open the pdf:
open /System/Library/Image\ Capture/Devices/VirtualScanner.app/Contents/Resources/simpledoc.pdf
It really is odd that "what if the public looses trust in us?" doesn't seem to be much of a consideration for some of these institutions.
They're just openly mocking users now eh? #[0]
I'm trying to log into nostrgram.co from a new device, via Alby. I'm receiving a message that says 'No NIP-07 extension detected', but Alby is installed and unlocked.
Tried restarting the browser, no luck. Anybody have any ideas?
How? It seemed to just always redirect me to an Edge download. Do you have a link?
Yea I wouldn't use it for normal browsing, just playing with the chat.
Do I download Microsoft Edge, just to play with the new Bing chat? Hmm..
