Several people here suggested I give Peter Attia's Outlive book a spin. I did. It has good bones but I definitely have some problems with it. I've thought about doing a longer blog post but in the mean time here is my review of it on BookWyrm. TL;DR this book could be a good primer for those that are trying to get some bearings on health/longevity but I think it way overstates necessary meat consumption, way understates the value of eating a plant dominant diet, and leaves out a lot of actionable information that could have been included for people who can't afford paying for all of this "Medicine 3.0" stuff out of pocket to the tune of thousands of dollars a year. #BookWyrm #PeterAttia #longevity #health #fitness bookwyrm.social/user/hankg/rev…

nostr:npub1nefvtmczznpajw3l4jnk9qwp9dsp0lk9vwnnvxpfyvhr3uxw4qasyrszm6 I hit the little info button and in there there are options for reducing ads from particular accounts and blocking specific ads. If they make the same ad but it is a different ad buy then it will show up again. Hopefully the algorithm will reduce its prevalence since I downgraded them. However these outfits also sock puppet accounts which makes it a bit less effective. We are up against a multi-billion dollar right wing propaganda machine with lots of organizations and tools as well as money unfortunately :(.

Oh yeah this is definitely going in the reading queue but bumping down some other current entries... #RetroComputing #apple2 #Apple2Forever thenewstack.io/a-new-book-abou…

Budweiser Zero tastes pretty much the same as a Bud Light to me...take the good and the bad of that statement. It's not missing any flavor, what little Bud/Bud Light has. It's just missing the alcohol. 80 calories of alcohol to be exact. Same generic beer flavor with just 50 calories and literally no alcohol. I'll take it! #beer #ZeroBeer #NABeer

nostr:npub1n6g4js374378t90rrh4jyeqaqf537ce0qygu79u4r5mgf7qn8hkqk3watk I've heard him on a couple of podcasts, most recently Rich Roll covering his new book. I'm heavily considering getting his book even though it seems that his protein consumption recommendations seem way higher than all the other longevity research I've been following. That's doubly true if it drives excess consumption of meat. His workout recommendations also seem excessive, not as in unhealthy but unnecessary. The only comment I really chaffed at when I heard him in an interview, which I admit may have been to get soundbite-like and not what he says in his book, is that this "guarantees" you'll live to be 100. That is not feasible. I've thought about trying to listen to his podcast but something about the way he talks that I can't put my finger on makes me tense in the same way listening to the Oxyclean guy in the infomercials does. He may have a different presentation in his podcasts though. I'm hoping that Red Pen Reviews eventually reviews his book. I consider them the gold standard on that.

Any one have some suggestions for health/fitness/longevity podcasts of that are interesting and not full of woo woo? Now that I'm in more of a fitness mindset and I've dropped some tech podcasts that I just wasn't enjoying any longer I've been trying to find more high quality fitness podcasts. I'm coming up somewhat empty though. The top results in my podcast app, Downcast, seems to be full of the usual trendy, influencer, pseudo-science laden crap. "Superfood" this and "what 'they' don't want you to know" that. Carnivore diet this, raw food vegan that, and again "the things 'they' don't want you to know" BS again. I lost a few back in my last fitness focus days of 2012-2014 to their parroting of anti-vax nonsense, buying into whacky stuff about magnetic fields, and pushing bizarre unfounded supplementation strategy. A few others seem to have regressed into the above categories since then and others just don't exist any longer. The only ones I have right now in regular rotation is Marathon Training Academy and probably 1/3 the episodes interest me from No Meat Athlete, and Rich Roll. I just add "Docs Who Lift" after seeing one of them on a Youtube video that I thought they did a good job on. Any others you all love? #health #fitness #running #podcasts #MarathonTrainingAcademy
