You actually made me curious about who first coined the term Lightning Network and what's the story behind coming to that name.

Sometimes I worry that we are not documenting all the human history around the developments that we are making. It would be so sad if in the future there are gaps on how the world's financial foundations came to life.

There is so much beauty in an idea that is so simple yet so valuable. Congrats on coming up with this and sharing it with everyone.

Agree. I pay a lot more on stackernews than I do around here because the UI at SN makes it trivial while here I need to do 25 clicks and input a password.

So this means the wallet connect feature could be used with LNbits to receive and send zaps without the need for a lnaddress?

The network is very different than one or two years ago. There's a fair share of monster channels around, so if you also have a few in your node, there are good chances these sizes will go through.

It would be great if you would come over here. You are one of the few profiles for which I go back to twitter every now and then. It would be awesome to not have to do that.

I've tried Bisq, Robosats, Peach and the LNP2Pbot.

TLDR: make bisq your first choice. Stick to robosats for small amounts, if you don't own a laptop or/and if you prefer to receive your Bitcoin through the LN. Peach and LNP2Pbot are nice but not superior to the previous ones in any way.

Bisq is the kind of P2P exchanges. It requires running the software on a laptop and it has a learning curve, but once you get over it, it just works. It has more liquidity and markets than the other P2P exchanges and you will find both smallish (~100$) and large (~5000$) offers. It's security protocol for the trades is impeccable and the team behind is made by true OGs.

Robosats is nice but not as mature and developed as Bisq. Robosats is nice if you want or need to use the Lightning Network instead of onchain transactions. Trades also happen at a faster pace than the usual Bisq transaction (minutes/hours vs days), so if you are in a hurry it might be a better option. It can also be used in any computer (or smartphone) without installing specific software other than the Tor browser, so if you don't have a computer that you can use privately regularly Robosats might be a better choice.

Seeing the taxi cartels all over the world get outdated by a decentralized P2P uber clone would be so awesome. Society has been left without affordable rides for too long just to enrich the few.

Well, most of the volume in P2P exchanges (bisq, robosats, peach, etc) gets settled through banking. So I would be concerned about how a draconian CBDC deployment could impact the scene.

As an antidote to that, it would be great if more real-life meetups and communities pop everywhere. A social web of people meeting in meatspace will endure a lot of oppression.

I love it when I see ancient accounts like this posting buy offers on bisq. Such a silly yet striking badge that showcases years of p2p stacking.

Barcelona is Bitcoiner

What things do you like/not like about them?

I personally feel grateful about having some boglehead influences before finding bitcoin. It taught me stuff like thinking long term, DCA, the absurdity of many parts of the financial sector (such as actively managed funds), that there's no free lunch, etc. These ideas helped me avoid many stupid mistakes as I embarked on my Bitcoin journey.

Oh god who could have seen that coming. Probably there's a retracement coming.
