Thanks #plebs! Crowdsourced answers. Love it.
Must be it, right? No venting from it, just provides a little extra O2 for when fire burns...guess that must be it. TY.
Nothing above the chimney but sky (haha). No second vent above fireplace opening. 🤔
Well there's a trap door at the back we dump ashes into -- goes all the way down to basement. So, not sure.
FIREPLACE QUESTION
WHAT IS THIS?
It slides left and right a hair, seemingly opening and closing a vent. But there's no exhaust there, it's just some kind of compartment. No clue what it does. Open when fire or closed when fire? Anyone?

I would advise against it. It's more than just a physical act, and the consequences are far deeper than most people realize--for good or for ill.
disbelief: garage door saga continues
- replacement part is only $17 - no need to replace entire thing ("mending is better than ending") - much time saved
- Amazon issued a NO RETURN REFUND for the TWO I'd bought (both are 30 years old, might as well) - that's over $560 - why? how? never mind who cares thank you very much - basically cash in my pocket
shocked, thankful, moving on to the next project...
confused by #providence but very #grateful !
Amen. Too often, though, when the difficulties come, or the children, those patterns emerge. Best to rule them out beforehand if you can. Marriage is hard enough.
Haven't been to or even seen a Best Buy in a decade, but yeah I suppose that makes sense duh 🤦♂️
Range time over. Now I *should* install the new garage door opener...but I really want to dig into #meshtastic and #reticulum. Hm. Guess I'll wait for the hardware. Onward.
I've heard there are fakes on ebay and (maybe) Amazon. Where would you buy?
Yes but sometimes the clutch wears out. Hard to go from 5th to 1st, dangerous to go from 5th to R... "use the clutch" is a common saying in our house when people are coming in hot with a new topic and without context...
So true. I was all pumped to get into this and everything is sold out! Signed up for all the 'Email when availables' so hopefully...soon...
Questions a young man should ask:
- how is her relationship with her father?
- is her mother what I want my wife to be like?
- how does her mother treat her father?
- do I want my daughters to be like her?
Questions a young woman should ask:
- how does he treat his mother?
- is his father what I want my husband to be like?
- how does his father treat his mother?
- do I want my sons to be like him?
There are always exceptions, and some children are able to break bad familial patterns, but these are generally a good starting place. No one should enter #marriage unthinkingly.
A little unsolicited advice, thank you for indulging me.

Range day (out back) with my oldest and his buds. This is "common sense" - train them young...

Yes. Snapping someone's photo is one thing; marshalling their identity to perform actions or to speak words to which they may object must be the highest form of identity theft, forgery, fraud...etc.
