If I knew how, I would add dedicated statistics for the relay on http://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de. Since January (I don't have older data at hand), the server sent out 9 PByte of data. 104 TByte would be 1% of that.

you can generate stats with goaccess if you have a reverse proxy in front of it

Sadly i managed to wipe the old logs but relay.nostr.net has generated 659gb of traffic in the last 53days.

Its tiny compared to damus but its serving its users 24//7.

And I don't have tor stats.

If anyone is curious about data the latest report can be seen a https://relay.nostr.net/r/report.html

What nostr:npub1az9xj85cmxv8e9j9y80lvqp97crsqdu2fpu3srwthd99qfu9qsgstam8y8 said in the latest Bitcoin.Review pod really reasonated with me

Something along the lines of “if you make hardware wallet UX too easy, people will not grasp the importance of self-custody”

It was using a Coldcard for the first time that I realized that this was serious business.

Make it too seamless and people won’t differentiate between self-custody and holding their wealth in an exchange wallet.

using a graphical interface to access nostr is making you miss the importance of it. Use nak to participate in the network to truly grasp it.

While at it, maybe lets just stop with the nonsense of operating systems, you get bios and a system prompt, then program the fuck out of it to grasp the significance of the invention of computers and its importance.

This is the biggest possible copium and CC cult apologist rhetoric I've heard in a long time.

every time i'm away for couple months I find a new thing I didnt account for in my home setup 😅

that is precisely the thing everyone forgets about when they talk about self hosting - the cost of owning yet another piece of running software that needs to be updated, backed up, will die when you the least can afford to fix it etc.

great stuff mate!

looking forward to seeing it in action. two sats tho

1) "While accepting Lightning reduces the fees on my client’s side, it just moves the burden of paying the on-chain fee to my side, effectively making my business a speculator on the on-chain fee market"

This is primarily true for a business/person that only receives payments in bitcoin but primarily spends fiat (tho now with exchanges (and p2p solutions) having LN support even that becomes a lesser problem)

2) "I’ve seen wallets come and go, including the one we built. So I know how hard it is to find a business case. But I feel now is the right time in terms of technology and adoption to make a bet on bitcoin payments"

I've been thinking a lot about this - in properly build trustless projects the business model can't be rent seeking and user capture but an actual service people pay for willingly, not because they don't have a choice.

And a service people are paying for already is bridges between security models. So a wallet/service that enables me to seamlessly switch between risk models (mints, liquid, lightning and onchain) is something that will make money (boltz.exchange being a clear proof of that). I'm looking very much towards more multi-risk options self-custodial wallets (kudos to nostr:npub1jugar2agq6369p0l86razavs9shj2p6pscxecevs8j94ap37hkqsjlfc28, nostr:npub148qm45zettnf6ekgkatnyfadunxwjpu8sy88mjdsgwc5f202d93qmejra7, nostr:npub1mutnyacc9uc4t5mmxvpprwsauj5p2qxq95v4a9j0jxl8wnkfvuyque23vg that already support at least two options - LN and onchain).

making the current internet experience better really isn't a hard battle to win for nostr

in case sirion.io mirror even dies I also host a copy https://anarplex.cypherpunk.wtf/
