this smells like the beginning of the self-host debate again
c'mon bro. you gotta hashtag that shit. throw out the bat signal. #bitcoin #bitcoin #bitcoin #bitcoin
I need a better way to manage who I follow. noticing I have quite the echo chamber going on.
for the first time over a decade, I have no beard. this is my nightmare.
nothing like needing the government to come in to save you from needing to change
He is fully wrong.
The fact that an all is attempting to get distribution where users are says absolutely nothing about the protocol.
Just like bitcoiner a using YouTube for its distribution.
nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s is doing lordβs work by putting up with this shit for the good of Damus and nostr; we should be so lucky to have as many dedicated and relentless builders as him.
just like a smart bitcoiner that uses YouTube in addition to rumble, Odyssey, bitchute, etc for distributing their content in preparation for the inevitable ban hammer, nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s should have tossed damus iOS for damus web a long time ago when he was thinking about it. these iOS shenanigans were inevitable. instead of moving forward, he's stuck dealing with arbitrary bureaucracy that could change at any moment through no fault of his own, as we've seen.
I appreciate everything he's don't for this community but I think he starts considering fulltime on damus web or start porting to something more cross platform like react native or flutter.
it's the seemingly prevalent cognitive dissonance being held amongst ios users that nostr is awesome partly because of its decentralized nature but also we need to have our walled garden application when there great, feature-rich alternatives out there that are cross platform, which means they can benefit from a large user base than just OS specific apps.
this would be sick. I'd be down to help if you wanted some help
i mean, he's not wrong though.
the idea that an application for a decentralized protocol needs to be on a centralized app store or else people throw a hissy fit is pretty funny.
i wouldn't call nostr a failure for it, but i think those pushing so hard for a native ios app should really think about the implications of what they are pushing for.
pwas are often easily self-hostable since it's just static files. meaning you can host your own, still access it as normal, and update it whenever you feel like it. on the other hand, most iOS users have autoupdates on.
i'd say alot of that is because it's in iOS though. there's alot less ios devs have to worry about in some sense because the number of versions is limited, the hardware support is limited, and the store has so many requirements, you can't really get an unpolished app through as easily. damus also doesn't have features other clients have where that doesn't really go the other way AFAIK.
yeah for sure. i understand that. i think all the tools should have an init command to make a "good enough" config from the start. or just don't allow config. like prettier initially didn't really have any config. that was the point.
nostr users: more clients is a good thing. micro-apps ftw
also nostr users: NO! DAAAAMUS! I HAVE TO USE DAMUS! IT'S THE BESTEST AND ONLY ONE I CAN USE! GIVE IT BACK, DADDY APPLE! GIVE IT BAAAAAAAAACK!!
probably because android users were already using nostr via pwa. apple users waited patiently for the app store approved app.
how's that iOS highlighter app coming along?
just stop building for iOS. I know it sucks for people have iphones, but maybe that's what we need. there's lots of new apps being built for Mac and iOS first cuz reasons and android users have to wait. why not build for everything else instead and make apple users wait?
