I'm all sugar and black maple here. I think you can, it just doesn't have as much sugar in sap, you would just boil longer. I made some syrup from walnut trees for fun and it was 80 gal sap for 1 gal syrup and it was great. Sugar maple is about 45 gal sap per gallon. So big leaf maybe closer to the walnut amount. I tapped 50 walnut trees to get that because they don't give as much sap either.
Long couple weeks. Son was sick with stomach flu that then went to mono. Lots of laying around and getting him to eat more. Finished big piece of home butchered sausage as he then attacked the waffle ice cream sandwich with homemade maple syrup. He got his calories this morning.

Oh man, what you can do with maple. Check some of my timeline from March thru June and you will see making syrup, ideas for syrup, and yes, this year I got zapped for some syrup orders.

Yep, gotta be 3 ft higher than roof when I put it on. It will provide structure for roof on that end.
Homebuilt patio fireplace is now structurally and functionally done. Over the next year: pour patio, hand hew a mantle, stonework all walls and chimney, put a roof on it. I'm ready for fall fires.

I feel you. Mine only lasts a month in March of collecting maple sap and boiling. Rest will come.
I have been off platform awhile as life with teenagers is busy. Letting everyone know I am out Maple Syrup until the season in March 2024. Thanks to the Bitcoin community 1/2 of all syrup sales were in BTC. I will send notes next year for return customers to have 1st dibs.
Maybe I'll send you some to try. It is about 80 gal sap to 1 gal syrup. We tapped 50 trees and got a gallon and a pint. It also has more pectin in it so is hard to filter. It's really good.
Teenage sons (14,16) working at small local foundry again today. 1st time for poured aluminum. They are loving it and learning. Then off to cross country practice tonight. Teenage boys have lots of energy. Encourage them to use it.
Afterwards lots of meat and peaches off the tree

I'm lucky. Cousins next door have a 15 acre organic farm. I barter by cutting wood for them and pick stuff like this up couple times a week. I can get stuff that doesn't sell that week for canning and freezing. And stuff getting old goes to my pigs.. My garden went to zero about 5 yrs ago. Can't wait till cherry tomatoes, they plant 7 varieties. If you are ever in NW Ohio at a farmers market (Bowling Green, Perrysburg, Toledo, Tiffin) try and find Clay Hill Farm. Great food, and you will find my syrup at their stand.

The cinnamon rolls were great. I was surprised they were able to ship them. As for my syrup, it is very good, zap an order amount, PM contact info. and you can have your own.
Got my order of coffee today from @satscoffee
San Pacho is fantastic and I haven't tried Satoshi Blend yet. Get yours with bitcoin on their site or from @OshiApp
Also, try and think of something to produce so you can also enter the producer side of bitcoin economy. Also check out my artisan maple syrup you can get for bitcoin(great as coffee sweetner). Prices pinned to my profile. I will be sold out of the 140 gallons I made this year by September.

Directions like that always throw people off. South of Detroit in Canada. As the crow flies I'm not too far away. 30 min to Southern border of Lake Erie by Catawba.
Bartered with Friedahodl, who sells cinnamon rolls for Bitcoin in Tennesee, for my homemade maple syrup I sell for BTC, across the US from Ohio. Every week or two I see a new producer willing to sell for BTC. It is slow and takes time, but the circular economy is slowly growing.

Here is another reason to migrate to Nostr. Wanted to get cinnamon rolls made by Frieda for Bitcoin, (or barter my maple syrup)I went to message and got this. She's not a blue check either.

Just the amount ordered, like 1 qt, and an address to ship it to. I will see that the order matches the zap amount.
I've made about 25 sales on Nostr this year. I am a hobbyist so never set up website. Sell at local farmers markets, twitter DM and Nostr PM. Easiest on Nostr so far is a zap and a private note with order and shipping. But I am keeping an eye out for a Nostr solution.
Always have 100% real maple syrup for bitcoin. Don't have to be in Canada. I'm in Ohio, 42 miles from Canada. Same great lakes area, wouldn't be any difference if Governments never drew the lines. Pricing on profile includes shipping. PM me directly.

Yep, that's my sister. She uses the tallow from when I butcher a steer. I got her in contact with Michael Atwood last year at OSHI.
1 Qt Maple syrup headed out to nostr:npub1ugnq57hn8va6xqr5zywy2eunem6c624583vkt0dmv40ep7tnnxkqrr898l Thank you for contacting me. I threw in a bar of my sister Sarah's tallow soap to try.
