I'll buy into some relief over Christmas, but that's about it. don't even think it will clear.

Can you go into more detail, what hardware wallet, how do you receive lightning sats onto it, how is it connected to the (your?) node?

if you want to shill #ark, fine with me. another l2 tech is always welcome. but no need to start by bashing #lightning which is live and kicking right now!

the reason why I personally refuse to use apple is because I won't allow some random company to decide what kind of software/content I'm allowed to use. also you have to trust their security claims, you can't verify.

but it's neat, I'm sure.

#ath in '23?

so instead of a license you put an unlicensed? hard to find something less important to waste my time discussing about - or do I miss some important point here?

what does it matter? just to not have to include the license file? #Bitcoin #foss

🔪 Killing in the name of Privacy

How an AD blocker killed my work of months and how is this related to telemetry in #FOSS

#OxiTraffic #Linux #IndieWeb #Privacy #AdBlock #AdBlocker #uBlockOrigin #Blog #Telemetry #Analytics #OpenSource #Selfhosting #Selfhosted

how can one make a request without sending the clients IP? that's basically impossible... and I it's at least difficult to not send the full referrer and user agent.

you mean using a DNS server that does not resolve known as+domains like pihole?

I believe a pi is a bad choice, as raid setups are difficult there. data integrity is difficult and backups only possible with #CLN as those have to be strictly realtime.

difficult. I had nodes not wanting to connect to me because I had too many FCs. thing is this is hardly my fault, I just operate a 'connect with anyone' policy. this of course leads to many rpi systems, tor-only systems often forcing me to FC, yet I believe as a peer my node is very low risk.

very true list. except for 10)

sure, no roi if you are not online, that's kinda obvious. but being offline is hardly connected to outdated channel states, this requires data corruption of some sort.

and the real risk of being offline (or Tor just not working at it should for some time due to ddos or whatever) is force closes, the bane of the lightning network. or your peer being offline, just as bad!

if you sign on cli you have to provide the zbase, not the signature value

running a #lightning node creates those pesky small UTXOs constantly, and at a high price. I have like 0.5% of my channels force closing daily. this number is based on a feeling, didn't look it up.

Pro/Con of “Private” Email

Protonmail

Pro: Allows Tor, Many use it so network effect of proton to proton encryption

Con: Huge increases in data handoffs to governments makes you question how much data they can get, some question if it’s a honeypot. Even if not, you’re potentially targeted for even being there, and they have a bad track record.

Tutanota

Pros: Better track record than Protonmail

Cons: Bans Tor and many VPNs. Severe Browser fingerprinting annoyance when signing up. They auto-delete your account if you don’t login for 6 months, but you can get around this by adding 2-factor authentication TOTP with KeePass XC

Skiff

Pro: Fast sign-ups, very easy to get a burner account

Con: They use Cloudflare. Cloudflare intercepts all traffic, so 0% private. This company is essentially propaganda.

Mail in a Box (software)

This is self-hosting using open source software on a VPS

Pro: More private than any provider. It does most of the setup work for you

Con: Requires $5 to 15 a month on a VPS (but can be split among friends). VPS provider can still access emails by snapshots of memory. Unless you put it in a docker container, you can’t do anything else on the VPS

Luke Smith Scripts (software)

Pro: Fast way to get an email VPS setup

Con: Requires it to be put directly on the server, which can mess up OTHER things you got going on there, like using aaPanel

aaPanel (software)

Pro: Easy to manage a lot of services going on, including WordPress or databases with your email

Con: Not worth setting up this whole thing up for JUST email.

Follow on Nostr for more!

the last 3 all share the con that comes with VPS, but you only list them for the first. can be mitigated by running on non-shared servers. even at home on a #raspberryPi if you feel like tackling the non-dialup-ip problem

just install #CLN (or #LND (or both)) and see where it goes from there 😎 hook them up to your Bitcoin node, nothing else is needed. a lot is optional thou. Tor, management web ui (RTL, thunderhub, sparko), grafama/Prometheus.

be aware that the profit will mainly manifest in wisdom, not in sats :D

what is a physical keeper? like not on a computer?

I have two hw wallets. one is close to me, the other is as far away as I could manage. the pin is not documented, just memorized. passphrase are memorized & documented at different locations with friends/family. there exists a bank vault with my seed words on paper.
