Nostr isn’t free for some of us until it’s free for all of us. And to do that we need to build a space where people and communities of users can set and enforce community norms for themselves. If we don’t build these tools then we’ll not be able to make Nostr for everybody. Nobody’s saying you need to use moderation labels or relays that take down reported content. Just that for people who want them, they can use them. We need good tools for self management. Authoritarians take and hold power because they claim that they’re the only one to keep people safe. If we don’t build in tools on Nostr to help us keep ourselves safe, then people will think their only option is to use a system with opaque unaccountable centralized control over the platfrom.

That’s why I do the work on nostr:npub12m2t8433p7kmw22t0uzp426xn30lezv3kxcmxvvcrwt2y3hk4ejsvre68j and other projects to provide tools for trust, safety, and moderation on a permissionless open protocol.

And if you don’t believe harassment happens, please listen to people like nostr:npub19vvkfwy9mcluhvehw7r56p4stsj5lmx4v9g3vgkwsm3arpgef8aqsrt562 who helped organize the first Nostr conference in her experience: nostr:note10c90rf00lttrxdvn2q6creqn0u274r9g2qz967wqgvm2myxlgz6sjmdrsv

Or look at what was said to me today: nostr:note14vmyqnz4mgj06fghjjy0ppv53dfexpzzz37ua4z3mmaf33nnf98q742jd4

Either we figure out a way to goven ourselves without centralized control or we’ll end up with that centralized control we’ve been fighting against.

How can you solve the small group of psychopaths that exist everywhere?

so many gems on this entry, even the linked pubkey is a lie 😂😂😂😂

Site is very cool. Kinda like an open Urban Dictionary, but broader.

I was spanked once, and introspecting about it, all it did was cause me to lose respect for my father. I obeyed afterwards but from that point I saw my dad as emotionally weak and patetic.

Those promoting spanking, just be honest with yourself. Everything you say are just ex-post facto justifications for an uncomfortable reality: you either want to hit children, or you are too cowardly to adequetely address what happened to you. Spanking is unnecessary and destructive, and a tool that serves only the momentary needs of the parents.

I'm not Christian either, but that verse interpretation is dubious, at best. People twist things do justify what they actually want to do.

Certainly, he's done his operations. Assuming what he said was true, he indirectly ratted out himself and many of his companions. If they are sinister individuals, I think he may well be at risk from them, not just the FBI.

Interestingly, someone is copyright flagging Junseth's post. Probably him and or his companions, probably pulling all the stops to get it taken down. Perhaps even the FBI wants it taken down while they investigate.

Let's see what happens, if hear about it.

It should be obvious that expenditures o AML is buying them something other that what they state. I think its more about assuring people can't avoid taxes and other financial controls as easily. It may also be about making it so the connected people can share in the proceeds of crime by selling 'looking the other way' to those who can afford it.

Imo, there's only two viable strategies to cope with the system: leave to somewhere where you are treated better, or hunker down and build communities outside of the system.

There's no way to stop what is coming. In either case, you hope you don't ever get in the crosshairs of the system or other citizens.

Meanwhile, build the tools that will provide the escape hatch, or alternative economies, and communities for the subset of people who can stomach escaping the system.

How about just going to where you have better life quality? We have very little power over other citizens who will blindly accept more and rules, including robbing and restricting you more. They won't change this until it becomes untenable to not do so. More pain is coming, and its delusional to think it can be fought directly. But, one can build tools to fight, from a more pleasant place.

I don't think so, it's like a race. So, it requires trust. But the method referred to in other comments seems ideal. That is, enforcing spend to particular address for situations where trust is not available.

Pretty cool, seems its locked to an address. I studied the base math behind ecash, but haven't read this detail. I wonder how this is achieved.

It's basically sending someone the information need to claim funds from the mint. Since both the sender and reciever will have this information, they both can attempt to claim it once Internet is available.

That's an interesting idea. Then, I suppose If I wanted to pursue a title I ought to explore this more deeply. That is, if my priorities called for such massive investment in time.
