new Uada album is pretty good but I don't really want to listen to satanic music anymore. heck, I can't even post the cover without breaking the instance rules

Also i recommend using a different version of Dosbox like DAUM or Staging so that you can use shader filters. I use a CRT shader filter since it makes the game much much easier on the eyes compared to the raw bright pixels you get by default.

Ultima IV is always a bit of a nightmare, you need to write notes for every bit of text you find so that you can type it in to ask NPCs about it. Really cool idea for a game but I'm not patient enough to wander around collecting clues and typing the clues to every random NPC I find.

that reminds me of something else - is Grimoire actually good and worth playing or were you just shilling it as a meme?

>I'm curious if there was an in-universe explanation for why the enemies became immune to (physical) attacks? "You tried to summon the spirit of magic but you fucked up the incantation so you summoned Beelzebub and now he dwells in every enemy."

I think some games had in universe explanations but not Wizardry

I tried Ultima IV once (free on GOG) and it didn't make any sense to me

So for example when you open Wizardry 6 it shows you magical runes and asks you what each one symbolises, the only way to figure that out is reading the magic section of the manual. If you answer wrong the game assumes you’re a pirate and makes all enemies immune to attacks. Funnily enough some people still pirated the game and beat it by exclusively using mages since spells still worked. Fun challenge run.

the funny thing is that the 10th anniversary release for Windows still had that in and it didn't come with a manual, just a quick reference guide but that one still had the spell costs to bypass this. I got trolled by this because I didn't have it printed out and didn't know how to get out of DosBox, so I had to redo the dungeon

A lot of my irl friends are total normies, and being someone who was terminally online for years, it's a weird feeling having access to arcane knowledge that nobody else knows about. I remember having to explain to one of my friends, this innocent Catholic girl, what canthal tilt was.

nostr:npub1d58lvrjmr4lgpsvh88lx28ujp0nyggc5m3wvrzyf7qqtmu0udrlss4jv5f nostr:npub1g0uss0sjsgxwmhqxgnvlj0zv9ru89xwfyktkcjc0kgy8syxj79ss383vfw I only found out about canthal tilt this year from a self-described incel. I'd say mine is slightly negative but I prefer to focus on things I can actually change

(as a side note, this guy looks very good, is tall, has perfect hair, a great build, and somehow he convinced himself that he's a subhuman and gave up on all meaningful pursuits. this stuff is poison)

but yeah, this kind of knowledge can be fun to pull out. many of my acquaintances are Czech so they can bear hearing nastier stuff, but you can tell they haven't really been exposed to some of the more vile things. a good example is cuckolding, when I described the gist of it they were just extremely puzzled and didn't understand the appeal at all

nostr:npub175dlmjzxq6fgswh73qym7epwcll0dlrkpvcd479u9fc3yrzgxrqsjdwrtj nostr:npub1jacntdqvalt27vngj9hwhjyqzppeayq7hnm2xmf7747t84yz32as4czppv nostr:npub1g0uss0sjsgxwmhqxgnvlj0zv9ru89xwfyktkcjc0kgy8syxj79ss383vfw that sounds like a great way to give one nerd a great understanding of sine curves and all the class hooligans a great understanding of the location of all office supplies in the teacher's desk and how they can be fashioned into lethal weapons

we're told that mutations pile up gradually and every organ had a precursor but what's the point of a wing that is incapable of flight? it would only slow you down, all this for millions of years until it somehow works. natural selection would filter it out

did Darwin have an answer for this?

birds couldn't have just "evolved". think about it
