Very easy to forget the "other stuff" transmitted through relay in the full acronym
One of the biggest advantage of lightning /ecash custodial to regular Fiat custodial is the ease and speed at which funds can be easily moved. Mints who attempt to rug users would be exposed quickly. Just as lightning has watch towers, I imagine something similar would exist for the vast majority of popular mints
I assume in addition to this, a solution that immediately swaps cashu tokens to lightning addresses in the background would go a long way.
But only technical users can do this right ? That's the point. If the discussion is around what technical users can do, then they can also use a custom lightning address. (Would have to run it themselves).
Non technical users don't run domains so Acinq is the custodian in this case.
I'm not sure I fully understand the point you are making.
For the vast majority of phoenix users who use DNS addresses, the domain is controlled by acinq. Isn't Acinq a custodian in this scenario? Not so much different than lightning addresses generated by wallet of Satoshi.
Technical users could use their domain instead for bolt12 but could be argued that they also can run their own web servers for lightning addresses?
This seems easier than building an LN address infrastructure. It's just a simple DNS TXT record with no need for a web server.

Until there are more wallet adoption for bolt12, a webserver is a better approach because it becomes possible to fall back to bolt11 invoices. Backward compatibility is important.
And there are more options. Peach Bitcoin is also great but onchain only. Need more lightning options

Bitcointxoxo mint isn't processing invoice when used through cashu.me . Dropped a negative review
Here is the error
Doesn't it depend on what they post?
Lnurl with a minor change and support from other blockchains wallet makes it possible to receive payments from other blockchains outside lightning/bitcoin.
The receiver can choose to receive all payments in lightning and transfer to a lightning native wallet if desired.
Imagine a scenario where a Solana user (using a wallet that supports lnurl) can directly send payments to a lightning address of another user (supports handling Solana and lightning payments which is controlled by the service).
While the setup is custodial, this being possible is mind blowing.
From a merchant standpoint, either a QR code of the lnurl or a lightning address is all that's needed to get paid.
To the bolt12 crowd, is it an actual invoice that is being paid or an offer? This discussion seems to suggest a difference.

When zapping with cashu.me, seems funds can only be deducted from the default set mint. Is this the intent? Also does the wallet needs to be open for the zaps to be successful?
Lnurl addresses can be setup with any funding source. Doesn't even have to be a real lightning node. This is just wild.
How are zaps custodial with the current setup? For bolt12 to be widely adopted, it would still need a lightning address solution?. How would that be any different from what we've got now?
From a custodian standpoint, bolt12 doesn't offer much. Lnurl works with any funding source. Doesn't even have to be an actual lightning node.
Are posts that are zapped also boosted by clients? #nostr
