Imo merchants will most likely always have internet, even in remote locations like a beach or a music festival. As a client, you could simply carry a card, ring, or even an NFC wristband and tap to pay then. Or using a phone and mobile device with Bluetooth, as in this case, might be interesting if you're abroad and don't have roaming. Additionally, it could potentially be even better for privacy in general, since no internet is involved at all in the transmission.
Exactly it's a just a surveillance device with a screen that is better for your eyes at this point. I guess they are not interested in losing the money they make from selling their users data on top to the spying tablet itself.

Why should it focus in a few hands if it's too easy? I see it myself, if I see now a app that i don't like fully but use regularly I simply build a better version with a "few" prompts. Definitely would not have happened before AI tools have been here.
