The thing that made me choose New Orleans as my landing place wasn't the 24 hour bars or the great food or the great music, even though all of those were fantastic benefits. The sole reason I moved there was the utter lack of judgement of one another.
The people I met had names like "Sarge", "Buggy Rick", "Billy from Philly", "Little Lucy", "Big Lucy" (who always hated that name as she isn't big at all - but she was bigger than the very diminutive "Little Lucy", so...). It was like the Wild West but between the gunfights, as I cannot remember any violence, not physical nor verbal, between any of us in those days. The last names, the pasts, whether they be sad, or criminal or both, or neither, were all left behind. The only concern we had amongst each other was "who's buying the next round"?
Those days are long gone of course - the internet, Google, social media and the influx of more well-to-do people dragged us from our little cocoon into the "great wide open", which is populated, as Tom Petty once sang, by "rebels without a clue".
The human propensity to judge is unfathomable to me. It is by far the most beloved activity of most humans - hence the popularity of Springer, Judge Judy and their ilk. I even had a person quote the bible to me regarding Jesus tossing those people from the temple, but they were quieted when I remarked that was done by Jesus, who also spoke of "casting the first stone". I feel that as "all men are created equal", none of us may judge the character or in many cases even the deeds of others of us.
This isn't to say that we are not to defend ourselves, either directly or by "prejudice" (i have witnessed this guy throw boiling water on someone before - I may want to avoid him, especially if he's carrying a pot), but ultimately the judgement isn't ours to make.
Chill out. Enjoy life. Stop worrying about what others are doing, unless they are directly affecting you - and in that case, do something about it. Stop watching television. Use the internet to learn, not to destroy.
Final word about this "blue check" nonsense: I have said before that the perfect social media vehicle would be one with no "handles" at all. Instead, we would be presented with an infinite blank wall on which may express anything we wish! Judge the ideas, not the people. *sigh*
There is no such thing as "I have to". The very first story of humanity demonstrates that humans are given free will, no matter how dire the consequences of the choices may be. One does as one wants.
In the case of physical force, there is still no "I have to". There may be an "I am being physically forced to", but that is valid only in the case where one is literally being forced into some position - say a quadriplegic into a wheelchair, and even in those actions one may assert that the response was not of their own action.
There may exist dire, ethical/moral, or even existential consequences to our actions, which may create dilemmas for each of us, but ultimately the choice of response is ours alone.
I've always wondered whether animals (birds, dogs..maybe all of them?) can actually sense, maybe by sound, changes in atmospheric pressure that would allow them to know when bad weather (that is, dropping atmospheric pressure) is on the way. Dogs have a wider range of hearing (I think?), so I wonder if thunder produces some truly terrifying low notes that humans can't hear?
exactly right. The DoI mentions that it is "self-evident" that all men are created equal. Then the Constitution codifies the ways in which some men may enforce their will upon others.
The whole idea that "sure, what the public wants is transparency, but those that work in government have a duty to keep those secrets" simply underscores that there is an inherent conflict between those governing and those being governed. The government, therefore, does not work FOR the governed, but instead works TO THWART the will of the governed, so that the governed may remain under the rule of those governing.
It has always been this way, in every country, in every place where there is a ruling class separate from those being ruled. We, the governed, are constantly at war - not with a scary foreign enemy, but with our own governments, regardless of by which government one is being thwarted.
It is absurd that the governments, who war with one another, at the cost of the labor and lives of the governed, as well as with their own governed individuals, seek to portray those wars between governments as wars between those being governed. The governed have a single enemy: the government which openly thwarts its will at every chance, using a flimsy "but, it's for your safety" cliche that fools swallow whole.

@jackspirko and those who follow him may enoy this little discussion with ChatGPT regarding the legitimacy of a "government with the consent of the governed"
As you may guess, the controlled AI goes to great length to defend the status quo, but the questioning is fierce. Who wins? You decide. In any case, it was fun.
don't know if this guy is on YT. Or #grownostr #chatGPT
That your refer to AI as a "who" rather than a "what" tells me what I need to know. Do you believe that AI writes code with absolutely no impetus from any human aside from electricity? I do not. I believe that a puppetmaster is manipulating the strings. What gives this AI its purpose?
Just as a pocket calculator does not invent math - it spits out results using the framework programmed into it by its creator - "AI" does not invent anything. It simply spits out a flowery string of words that reflect the principles, beliefs and aims of its creator. Assuming or bestowing any credulity to the results being provided to you is simply acceding to the prinicples, beliefs and aims of the creator of the "AI".
Just as with the invented title of "Ph.D." and with the omnipresence of the so-called "mainstream media", powerful people with the intent of lending trust and credulity to their own priniciples, beliefs and aims have presented to us an august-sounding propaganda device called "artificial intelligence". This title is meant to encourage the idea that this "intelligence" is somehow removed from any human input, as if its output is as infallible as the result given to one by a pocket calculator.
Of course, nothing could be further from the truth. "AI" is as fallible as those who program it - Toto may easily remove the curtain and reveal the fops actauilly responsible for the dissemination of these "results".
In the words of Public Enemy: Don't believe the hype.

Happy Tax Weekend!
Don't let me catch any of you being greedy selfish scofflaws when it comes time to pay your fair share of the costs of society!

I always felt that the best social media platform would have no "handles" at all. No clout chasing, no personal attacks - a forum for ideas only, kinda like an inifinite brick wall upon which we may graffiti forever. Thhis idea, of course, is the exact opposite of what those in power now demand: specific ID's for every user.
