I'm not sure if the USA has capital gains taxes for crypto purchases yet - not that the government would exempt it, but I'm not sure that the leaden feet of the legislature have caught up with crypto yet and whether it's an "asset" (like a security) or a "currency" (like "yen"). AFAIK, USA doesn't tax gains in currencies - I've been abroad many times and never felt that I needed to declare my pitifully small currency exchanges to the government.
OK, I am about to expose myself as a total n00b and probably be the first person ever to be kicked off nostr:
Since Bitcoin (or any blockchain related thing) is public, in that transactions, if not the exact holders of every wallet, can be seen by literally everyone, what is it's future for those in power? I hear about CBDC and CGDC, but are those non-blockchain forms of "digital currency"? There's absolutely no way, no how, that any government, much less one as powerful as say, the US government, is going to use any form of currency that would allow tracking by anyone outside that government. So how would that work? Some kind of super secret "private blockchain" that would immediate become the target of enemies and bored kids alike?
*puts hands over head* I'm just asking? what is the endgame here? I am an agorist but governments aren't going to just walk away and say "ooops, you got us, we'll go away now". And how would a "government digital currency" even work? just a bunch of fake numbers with NO blockchain? isn't that what we have now? :)
I know (almost) nothing about crypto, but I do know banking. If someone is holding your (value) as custodian, it is guaranteed that entity is hypothecating that value somehow. Absolutely 100%.
Noted. PS You are in my feed. That's how I saw your original post. Thank you for the explanation - I hadn't thought of the 401k holders who I guess cannot simply buy bitcoin in those accounts.
But why own a Bitcoin ETF when one may simply purchase Bitcoin? Precious metals have a delivery and storage issue. Crypto does not. Why pay a management fee to Blackrock/State Street when one can own Bitcoin with a few clicks? I guess that there's a positive marketing issue to the NPCs to having an ETF, but will an ETF truly prosper? Just being devil's advocate?
I've been a proponent of blockchain money for this very reason. In a perfect world (well, less imperfect world where government exists but it is actually accountable to the proletariat), all government purchases and transfers would HAVE to be made via the blockchain for the precise reason that then everyone knows where the money goes. I wholeheartedly agree that there does not exist any government that would submit to such scrutiny. Doesn't mean that they won't force it on the proles though.
Sadly I have the same issue - every single one of my friends and family are avid Network News believers and obediently pick up whatever flag or slogan is being promoted to them. It's all I can do to not shout "Trump" into a roomful of them just to see the fireworks. (and no, I am not a Trump nor a government supporter at any level). But I limp on, heartened that out there somewhere are people like yourself that actually do understand what's going on. Keep posting! It's a highlight of my mornings!
Agreed. If there is something like this in the pipeline, it certainly won't result in the rich paying taxes on their mansions in Newport RI that have been owned for generations. My guess is that they will attack "new" forms of wealth, like crypto.
What happens when assets lose value? Is the government going to allow deductions or refunds based on loss of value? This has absolutely no chance of passing, at least not without rules that would target only the lower class and assets not held by the wealthy (like say, crypto).
Although I am a bitcoin proponent, of course there are flaws:
1. all transactions are traceable, eliminating the privacy of those using it
2. it relies on a free internet (and electrical power to run it), which is a tenous prospect at best
That being said, nothing is perfect. Bitcoin is pretty close.
The first step to surviving a war is to identify the aggressor. Most people can't even figure out that basic fact.
I've been an advocate of anonymous social media right from the start. IMO, social media should be a big blank wall onto which anyone may "tag", like graffiti. The promise of social media is the exchange of information and ideas, not aggrandisement nor ad hominem attacks.

Plebe: takes hard shot to ribs, waits two hours (minimum) in "urgent care", spends 30-60 minutes answering questions like "are you pregnant", pays ~@50 co-pay if you are lucky enough to have insurance, waits two hours for results of diagnosis, get prescribed anti high blood pressure pills and told to go home. #healthcare #bigpharma

"Today, we can gather additional license plate reads and query suspect vehicles that are entering and existing in the area. I think, more than changing our operation, these modern devices have really helped us enhance security in one of the oldest and most popular neighborhoods in the country.”
"suspect vehicles"? Tanks? Unicycles?

shocking. either i didn't know that the country is predominantly Boomers/GenX, or maybe some of these platforms count each individual account, active or not. When I deleted Facebook over a decade ago, I had at least a half dozen dead people in my followers list. I never deleted any of my fake twitter accounts - there must be dozens of them out there, untouched in over a decade. Instagram? I have had at least eight and I think that a few of them may be active still. I wonder how they count "users"?
LOL will X send rolls of quarters for my laundry?
"Comic" books indeed. I read this as a teen and it changed my life's perceptions.
If you read nothing else, read page #20. There's a reason why Adam Warlock, the very central character to the "Infinity Stones" saga, never appeared in the successful movie franchise.
