#GM folks. Just found this band out of Germany while listening to Communion After Dark, and this is just too fun not to share.

Their song Punk's Not Dead is another awesome mash between oldschool punk and industrial dance music. A band worth keeping an eye on.

I still fuck around with IRC from time to time but it definitely has fallen off heavily in the last 5-10 years. Usenet does have its pockets of activity but it's definitely more of an older generational thing. Misc.survival and comp.misc were two places that at least last I checked had some decent activity if that's your thing. Most of Usenet is definitely a wasteland though, made harder to navigate because some of the groups still just get flooded with bots and literally nothing else.
Also spent a bit of time on the BBS message networks such ad Dovenet and Fidonet. Similarly older crowd. The charm of ANSI art on BBS's is something I'll always appreciate.
It does certainly give you more skin in the game, both in terms of quantity of inheritance, as well as the necessity to handle it correctly (to be cold and calculating about it). To anyone NOT familiar, very worth your time to check out Liana wallet to do this well.
Hmm...I wonder how long this will be reliable.
Also COULD depend which relays they use. Given that most of us use a cluster of the same ones if nothing else you are at least likely to see someone responding to them I suppose. But if they do just spin up their own relays and/or only post to some fringe ones you may end up missing out.
Not to tell you how to pick your follows, especially as someone already connected. But I do think it's worth sharing the nuance on especially for new folks here trying to figure out how to build their network to begin with (as well as some of the weirdness pertaining to how content moves on Nostr).
Pretty stoked Ian Carroll is coming to Nostr.
Well done, nostr:npub1qqvt0m3nlvjnssmrn33w9yh7cuq2dx5nkz8wxax9hk5hrjdnj4jqz8cn3w nostr:npub1xwmyzp64xx03kw9ecd7fzsj3e9dgwah6an0rdng0cc6ux4dswwjs28pyyc
Ianās content is incredible, and he also reveals a lot of inconvenient truths, so Nostr is a great place for him. He also just seems like a super chill dude.
Not sure what his npub is yet but he should be making an appearance soon.
As a podcaster maybe you can set the trend that when people say "I'm on Nostr" and then laugh about how they can't provide their npub on a podcast, maybe point out that NIP-05 is a lot easier (and more secure anyway). I've heard this already from a few Primal users, but I'm sick of facepalming when people feel like they can't actually share their most important of online identities because of the length of an npub. Pass it on.
You retired? Who's watching your kid now then?
Or you just mean from your fiat job...
Parents are never retired until their offspring are at LEAST 18. Some of them just quit their second job.
Amethyst has a sort of scrolling feed that reminded me of TikTok. That said, the functionality leaves a bit to be desired. Honestly not sure how much of that is on Amethyst and how much is on the relays. If you've not seen it may be worth taking a look.
Sun š comes out and makes me feel a certain way.

Coffechain, always good to help one get up in the morning.
That's great news! What about the prisoners that Hamas holds in custody since October 7? Was freeing them required as part of the deal to get the hostages back?
Jasmine rice is definitely weird to make with Japanese food, but all in all I'm pretty happy with my stir fry teriyaki chicken. #Foodstr

Iāve been using Notedeck for several months, starting with its extremely early and experimental alpha versions, all the way to its current, more stable alpha releases. The journey has been fascinating, as Iāve had the privilege of watching it evolve from a concept into a functional and promising tool.
In its earliest stages, Notedeck was rawāoffering glimpses of its potential but still far from practical for daily use. Even then, the vision behind it was clear: a platform designed to redefine how we interact with Nostr by offering flexibility and power for all users.
I'm very bullish on Notedeck. Why? Because Will Casarin is making it! Duh! š
Seriously though, if weāre reimagining the web and rebuilding portions of the Internet, itās important to recognize [the potential of Notedeck](https://damus.io/notedeck/). If Nostr is reimagining the web, then Notedeck is reimagining the Nostr client.
Notedeck isnāt just another Nostr appāitās more a Nostr browser that functions more like an operating system with micro-apps. How cool is that?
Much like how Google's Chrome evolved from being a web browser with a task manager into ChromeOS, a full blown operating system, Notedeck aims to transform how we interact with the Nostr. It goes beyond individual apps, offering a foundation for a fully integrated ecosystem built around Nostr.
As a Nostr evangelist, I love to scream **INTEROPERABILITY** and tout every application's integrations. Well, Notedeck has the potential to be one of the best platforms to showcase these integrations in entirely new and exciting ways.
Do you want an Olas feed of images? Add the media column.
Do you want a feed of live video events? Add the zap.stream column.
Do you want Nostr Nests or audio chats? Add that column to your Notedeck.
Git? Email? Books? Chat and DMs? It's all possible.
Not everyone wants a super app though, and thatās okay. As with most things in the Nostr ecosystem, flexibility is key. Notedeck gives users the freedom to choose how they engage with itāwhether itās simply following hashtags or managing straightforward feeds. You'll be able to tailor Notedeck to fit your needs, using it as extensively or minimally as you prefer.
Notedeck is designed with a local-first approach, utilizing Nostr content stored directly on your device via the local nostrdb. This will enable a plethora of advanced tools such as search and filtering, the creation of custom feeds, and the ability to develop personalized algorithms across multiple Notedeck micro-applicationsāall with unparalleled flexibility.
Notedeck also supports multicast. Let's geek out for a second. Multicast is a method of communication where data is sent from one source to multiple destinations simultaneously, but only to devices that wish to receive the data. Unlike broadcast, which sends data to all devices on a network, multicast targets specific receivers, reducing network traffic. This is commonly used for efficient data distribution in scenarios like streaming, conferencing, or large-scale data synchronization between devices.
> In a local first world where each device holds local copies of your nostr nodes, and each device transparently syncs with each other on the local network, each node becomes a backup. Your data becomes antifragile automatically. When a node goes down it can resync and recover from other nodes. Even if not all nodes have a complete collection, negentropy can pull down only what is needed from each device. All this can be done without internet.

> \-Will Casarin
In the context of Notedeck, multicast would allow multiple devices to sync their Nostr nodes with each other over a local network without needing an internet connection. Wild.
Notedeck aims to offer full customization too, including the ability to design and share custom skins, much like Winamp. Users will also be able to create personalized columns and, in the future, share their setups with others. This opens the door for power users to craft tailored Nostr experiences, leveraging their expertise in the protocol and applications. By sharing these configurations as "Starter Decks," they can simplify onboarding and showcase the best of Nostrās ecosystem.
Nostrās āOther Stuffā can often be difficult to discover, use, or understand. Many users doesn't understand or know how to use web browser extensions to login to applications. Let's not even get started with nsecbunkers. Notedeck will address this challenge by providing a native experience that brings these lesser-known applications, tools, and content into a user-friendly and accessible interface, making exploration seamless. However, that doesn't mean Notedeck should disregard power users that want to use nsecbunkers though - hint hint.
For anyone interested in watching Nostr be [developed live](https://github.com/damus-io/notedeck), right before your very eyes, Notedeckās progress serves as a reminder of whatās possible when innovation meets dedication. The current alpha is already demonstrating its ability to handle complex use cases, and Iām excited to see how it continues to grow as it moves toward a full release later this year.
Looking forward to this, especially on desktop. Web pages are nice and all, but Nostr deserves a dedicated application, and nothing I've seen yet really makes the cut. Onward and upward.
Cheeky because you used tallow rendered from the cheek to sautee them in?
I lost 40 lbs going keto for like, 9 months, but did spike my blood pressure and cholesterol pretty seriously (even admitting that my HDL:LDL was reasonable, it wasn't great having to have the 50th percentile represented over on the left size of my graph...). Not to dissuade you, just to point out, maybe don't make protein powder pudding using heavy cream on a daily basis like I did. Stuck sort of crashing back to "try not to have a heart attack within the next 2 years" in every way I can -- hopefully without direct medication but we'll see if that's necessary.
Make sure to chow down on olive/avocado oil, fish, and some good sources of fiber. And then yea...enjoy some beef hearts.
Do him the solid my parents didn't do me -- have him try some beef heart sooner rather than later.
Seriously, how did I need to get to be almost 40 before trying this stuff? And how the hell is it so cheap? The supplement pills that you replace with it alone cost more, never mind the fact that it's delicious (and a great way source of tallow to render for other cooking needs).
Also, if you or your wife have any favorite recipes as the ones that spring to mind first when I think of maybe almost a little too enthusiastic about beef, I'd love to hear. Made some in a slow cooker last night very simple with salt, pepper, oregano, and garlic powder, topped with onions, served with kraut and rice, and have my eye on Moroccan beef heart stew (as well as perhaps some beef heart bulgogi), but I figure the way to get to eat more of it is to drag my family along, and that'd be easier if I can find a recipe they're into -- which would necessarily mean no kraut. Wonder how well kushiyaki would come out with made with heart instead of flank steak... Or beef heart tacos...
"You can't have any dessert until you eat your heart out" has a nice ring to it.
GOOD MORNING NOSTR.

@ODELL, whatchu tryna pull posting a censored version of a music video on Nostr?
Feels like some 6d chess going on here...
Okay #foodstr, the store had beef hearts on the cheap. Gimme your best #BeefHeart #recipes.
Already got one diced in the slow cooker with salt, pepper, garlic, and oregano topped with onions that I'm gonna eat over rice with some proper fermented kraut. Interested in other methods of preparation y'all are into.
Fully Noded Server v0.0.5-beta by nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7erfw36x7tnsw43z7un9d3shjqpqhpzcx0sxmy8alvv4gl8zrzj3x4ndv2g526nh85nhe6x5wevqk44spg4mq4 is now available. It is a one click Bitcoin Core, Core Lightning and Join Market server for connecting to Fully Noded apps.
This version includes an improved Bitcoin Core view, and Bitcoin Core now defaults to v27.2.
"Installing, verifying, running AND USING YOUR NODE has never been easier on macOS," said the developer.
https://github.com/Fonta1n3/FullyNoded-Server/releases/tag/0.0.5-beta
Interesting. Curious that it's for MacOS. Also would be awesome to see it done using the Knots mempool policy defaults, especially given that it aims to be so easy to deploy, but for such an early state, neat project. And as much as I don't end up with macs ever, they're probably actually not too hard to come by in the used market given the propensity of their primary market to want the latest and greatest.
Is that celcius or freedom units? Been that cold here for a good few days if it's celcius -- I'd not think a Canadian would consider that cold in the first place. If it's freedom units, then yea...that's pretty darn nippy.
#GM #plebchain. IBD on my new #Bitcoin node is seemingly speeding up a bit, after a few grueling days digesting some really gross ordinal crap from 2023 and early 2024 -- looks like average block size drops off a little after April so hopefully we can finally be done after nearly 2 weeks of this process. Just to be clear, when people say "it's faster with an SSD" they really mean "no really...get an SSD." I doubt I'll care as much once I finally have the electrum DB set up and it's just dealing with one block at a time, but this has been grueling to watch as my mechanical usb drive has kept things choked out.
In case anyone's wondering though, it is still technically possible to run a node on a Raspberry Pi 4 with a mechanical USB 3.0 hard drive. Now that I've told you though, you can spare yourself the experience of bothering to do so and just go buy $80 worth of better hardware on eBay.
