Not with the node software itself, but generally things like running joinmarket as a market maker or a routing lightning node are going to be built on top of your node, and those can absolutely make you a profit.
I run a node for the same reason I wear clothing most of the time -- I'm not an exhibitionist.
If you're using someone else's node, you're flashing your transactions at them to oogle at.
If you ask me Bitcoin isn't a cryptocurrency. Calling it one has always been part of an affinity scam to give an air of legitimacy to the massive scams that are every single shitcoin going all the way back to namecoin.
It's a currency that uses cryptography for sure. Also uses a blockchain, a peer to peer network, and scripting.
It exists in a class all its own, and there is no second best.
I hesitate to even post this because speculating about who Satoshi is is frankly pretty rude. That said, if Satoshi really has been going to Superbowls with his name on his shirt this whole time it'd be some pretty amusing irony, and I can't help but tip my hat for the style points.
Also glad the article affirmed my suspicion about #Bitcoin likely coming out of California if only because it does help confirm that the astrological natal chart is at least mostly accurate.
nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m sure hope this is more flattering than headache inducing. It'd be pretty impessive to have rolled out Bitcoin whil simutaneously founer-CEO of both Twitter and Square at the time.
Anyway, we're all #Satoshi now, and whoever wrote the code should have his wishes for a life in the shadows respected.
Ember does have some gambling options, which I only use to the extent I absolutely am required to, as they don't let you cash out some of the cash back rewards for things like the "airdrops" you get for buying their platform tokens, without "playing through" the sats. But yea, some of the in app rewards are pretty nuts -- I bought over 19,000 sats the other day for $2.97 worth of in game diamonds (and in turn this I often subsidize a bit with Google opinion rewards...). Can't say I totally understand how they're able to swing such things but I suspect they catch enough either on the advertising side, gambling side, or both to generate enough revenue to pay out. It's definitely an app that requires some conscious discipline with and will make you jump through hoops, but it keeps my zaps funded anyway.
Only buy bitcoin with money you can't afford to lose is on the verge of reckless. It's something I see a bit from people who have enough of a stack that weathering a bear market isn't as painful to as the upside they get by hodling through it constantly thanks to the upward trend.
If you rely on constant liquidity of most of your money, that's just not viable.
It's a goal to be worked toward for sure, but it's hard to buy more if you've starved, or lost your job after you lost your home because your rent money just reduced by 80%. Understanding your tolerance for volatility is a must.
With belay I'd try, but I don't imagine I'd make it up at least without quite a few tries. Don't think my fingers are that strong or my body quite light enough to hold myself like that these days.
Anyone know what template this website is? Or how to build it. It’s super sleek/simple. https://tyronshi.com/ #asknostr
You can look at the source code yourself -- this one relies on a couple CSS files and Javascript.
Here's where you'd find the ability to inspect at least within Brave browser, under the main menu. Then just click whichever file you're looking to read the source for first. Usually best to start with (Index) as everything else is getting called from it.
That said, I know most people don't do web coding by hand nearly as much as we used to (and the web is grosser for it). Can't say I know what sort of tools got used to generate this. But hope it gives you some understanding of what's going on!

They're still somewhat useful to pull on threads with, though admittedly yes, not so much on the main ones. Selecting a hobby hashtag and searching might find 10% of that content, but you'll find a few people posting about it -- read their posts and you'll find the people they're interacting with about those hobbies.
It sort of brings you back to the webrings days of the internet, when everyone knew that search would only turn up so much, but site to site networking let you actually feel like you were on an adventure around the Internet. Remember when we called it "surfing"? Frankly I miss those days of finding cool content buried away where I might be the first person I knew to discover something, and friends would have things to unearth for me. It does take a lower time preference, but the rewards are worth it if you ask me.
Instead, the modern web is the same 20 sites everyone uses because they're SEO'ed to shit and it's whatever the deep state told them to write about or at least promote anyway. Closest you get to the old feel is Marginalia.nu.
We can certainly also write #Nostr code to mimic this modern crap if it's really how we get people to stick around long enough to enjoy the space. But it's worth remembering that most of what it's actually doing is filtering OUT what people have to say. #MyTwoSats
I find that reading books that like his are good even if you've already got the conviction of William Wallace, if only because different people I'm spreading the message to are different in what resonates with them. For some people I throw nostr:nprofile1qyt8wumn8ghj7ct5d3shxtnwdaehgu3wd3skueqpz4mhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejqqgzr08nkh7nk4q9cmw02wkfprkgtk0n8kgszlzyqe384ll3qv5rp453f6g5h , to others I throw nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytndv9kxjm3wdahxcqg5waehxw309ahx7um5wfekzarkvyhxuet5qqsw4v882mfjhq9u63j08kzyhqzqxqc8tgf740p4nxnk9jdv02u37ncdhu7e3 , others still nostr:nprofile1qqs8dzjwlrgdzltmgmmzg50l3jpr3hxv357hj03rjut5jsfm5ugtv9gn0vuws , and Larry here I'm counting on being the final heave to pull down my very stubborn boomer dad with way too much schooling getting in the way of his education.
Could just give them the whole message myself, but when lovely folks have already given us perfectly good tools for the job, why reinvent the wheel?
Ask them when they plan to expand to a location up in Boston or Cambridge. Long shot for sure, but MIT could use a Bitcoin pub, and Bitcoin/Nostr could use a constant reminder to MIT students that building shit for the DoD is far less exciting than building the rails for a future economy.
I should probably once in awhile get out for some public meetups myself -- but this sort of thing would definitely motivate me.
Unfortunately 2FA with phone or email is pretty awful security, as sim swaps are pretty rampant. You CAN lock your sim with a pin, and it is a good idea to in general, but usually, app based solutions are a step up, or I do see that Twitter offers hardware security keys as an option, which is even better). Glad it wasn't something higher sensitivity, but I know that Twitter's still pretty imperative on the tradfi side of things, so sorry to hear about your situation. Very telling what sort of outfit they're running that even a verified profile is being given this sort of treatment, not that its news to anyone here.
It makes a great unit of account to track the stock market's performance...

Amethyst has a built in option to route all traffic over Tor, and of course anything on a desktop would be trivial to do this with as well using something like Tails or Whonix. Running a relay is as trivial as installing an app on your phone.
And who doesn't run their own bitcoin node? Lightning I get, but bitcoin-core or knots are as simple as things get, and absolutely imperative unless you're a monetary exhibitionist.
You can ask relays to delete them and some will. But just like in meat space, you can't truly ever unsay something.
Truth be told, I get my zap money from some questionable outfits, like Ember fund or sMiles, where I get paid to do things like leave games open on my phone overnight, or walk, or do surveys. Brings in about 30,000 sats a month that I never feel too attached to and can comfortably zap around.
Could use it as an opportunity to learn about running your own lightning node. Though NWC is a mess so perhaps running your own lightning node and zaps shouldn't be connected...
#GM feathery purple folk. Got the week off for school vacation. Hoping to both replace my desktop power supply finally, and get my new #Coldcard Q set up. Might be needing to rewatch some of nostr:npub1rxysxnjkhrmqd3ey73dp9n5y5yvyzcs64acc9g0k2epcpwwyya4spvhnp8 videos on that front. Definitely glad to be stepping up from the Trezor One which feels only a slight step up from a hot wallet.
What's your favorite Coldcard feature ad why? #AskNostr
Gonna look into it while sipping this #MudWtr

That's a nice shot of the Charles. Taken from the Longfellow Bridge I assume? Used to spend a lot of nights wandering up and down that river years ago...
