Can somebody give me a tldr of why people here are so hyped about #cashu and not #fedimint? Or am I reading the room wrong? #asknostr

Haven't really seem much exciting built around fedimint in a while. Not since Mutiny Wallet was using it for offline receiving. Meanwhile, nostr:npub12rv5lskctqxxs2c8rf2zlzc7xx3qpvzs3w4etgemauy9thegr43sf485vg and others have been busting their ass builting cool stuff with Cashu.

No reason defining couldn't integrate a lot of what they've been doing, but haven't seen much movement there. They seem more focused on community custody for underserved regions, which has limited cross-over application to Nostr.

Small pieces, loosely joined.

Because Fedimint sounds like it's from the Government and Cashu sounds like a delicious nut.... Simple as that ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿ‘

Wen honey roasted cashu?

I hope soon ๐Ÿ‘€

Cashu sounds like what the waiter gives you while you're waiting for your food, and Fedimint sounds like what the waiter gives you with your bill.

* Mind Blown *

Insightful, does NOT cover it.

more convenience > slightly more security

Could it be that lightning is a better settlement layer between mints than the base chain?

No!

Cashu is simpler (single custodian) vs fedimint with multi-custodian

Cashu is simpler to hack on

calle hacker ethos

I think the use cases are different. Fedi is based on a collaborative custody model I believe, where you know the community member that custodies your funds. More useful in context such as small communities without access to banking.

different use cases, Cashu is cool and gaining adoption because it's a protocol that is more interoptable and a lot of potential uses and gained some adoption in part thanks to Nostr.

I think itโ€™s because:

- we donโ€™t live in tribes anymore

- cashu is simpler

- cashu is protocol with better documentation. Fedi is more about one specific app

I have 100k sats in my cashu wallet. I'm not so worried about that getting stolen that I need a complex federation.

Fedimint is developed like a cathedral. Cashu is more the bazar model.

Convay's law suggests that the resulting software architecture mirrors the human communication structure. Cashu evolves more more decentralized than fedimint.

Simplicity is a great feature

Cashu currently has more trustworthy public mints IMO. nostr:npub12rv5lskctqxxs2c8rf2zlzc7xx3qpvzs3w4etgemauy9thegr43sf485vg and others aren't strangers on Nostr. I've never seen a Fedimint operator publicly interact with their users. nostr:npub1kvaln6tm0re4d99q9e4ma788wpvnw0jzkz595cljtfgwhldd75xsj9tkzv and nostr:npub1h2qfjpnxau9k7ja9qkf50043xfpfy8j5v60xsqryef64y44puwnq28w8ch are paving the way.

Can you explain what does fedimint have to offer? I have downloaded Fedi twice and still havenโ€™t discover any use case for it

Fediment feels like a nothingburger, there was a lot of hype like 8 months ago when the fedi guy made podcast rounds but there's nothing that's come of it. Meanwhile with cashu theres constant new use cases/demos of shit on cashu. It's basically devs stuffing cashu into everything

#Cashu is to #nostr what #Fedimint is to #Fediverse/Mastodon.

You don't need a federation, you simply let the user decides which relays and mints to use.
