There he is

They must prevent this meta takeover at any cost.

Btw we missed you, welcome back.

Carpe Diem

Agreed Zuck isn't trustworthy.

#nostr fixes this.

My relays cannot ban me from seeing others people content

Now that's a blog I haven't visited since the Mardown discussion

Same, for a long time I’ve thought that it was Aaron Schwarz blog that lingers on after his passing.

That’s a lesson that you’ll be stamped in your face with what you spend time/attention.

Lol

march of mastodon?

Nostr is winning

true mate

Despite hating Meta, I’m against censorship even if against persons/entities that I do not agree or despise.

If your enemies can’t run a node, then the network hasn’t evolved enough yet. 😎

Facebook running a #bitcoin full-node or #nostr relay won’t lead to these issues because users can switch connections if Facebook acts uncooperatively.

Function without the monopolistic control/leverage of corporations is our the goal.

the old “its only censorship if its against us” pickle

Something build that can be captured is being captured well this is truely shocking

They got nothing on us.

If I understand it right, it matters less whether a non critical mass of users want to limit network access, and more if the network properties allow that.

Surprised John and Ben Thompson still haven’t picked up on #nostr at all yet.

Repeating what I said on twitter cuz I thought it was clever 🙃 - “Why did Facebook change its name to Meta anyways? It’s like an episode of HBO’s “His Dark Materials” where Metatron turns out to be a total asshole”

the self righteousness of mob rejection is a popular substitution for a life of meaning and actual belonging in todays pop culture.

When individuals arrogate the authority to determine what is right and wrong, firmly entrenched in their unwavering conviction of absolute righteousness and moral absolutism, it frequently paves the way for extremism and totalitarianism.

I missed you, Jack đŸ€—đŸ«‚

I will try to learn what is fediverse..

I never saw the point of masto as being open. The draw of masto is to help users block corporate surveillance and corporate/user abuses, utilizing more active moderation from people with similar values and interests. It’s a governance model. Facebook has done tremendous damage to people’s mental states, there is zero reason to think they wouldn’t continue on masto and every reason to preemptively block them. Now, if you’re on masto and want all content from everywhere, you can spin up a single user instance without any blocks (time and money). So technically it’s possible, just not as easy as joining a moderated instance.

Maybe it's not "mob mentality" maybe it's about preventing monopolization of server ownership. Anyone can spin up a node and anyone can block it. Sounds like open sourced community decision making to me .

Maybe it is a design problem.

Servers shouldn't decide what content you can access.

Migrating on mastodon is messy because you cannot keep your handle.

The irony. Meta implemented the linked data stack WAY before mastodon. And activitypub still havent implemented the spec correctly

It’s hard to imagine meta would share the same ideals as the existing fedi community, so this is not an unexpected reaction. Ideally the protocol and product would be resilient enough that it doesn’t matter.

Great read. I love the use of the term “pre-crime”. We got to support any large company when they’re doing the right thing. The snobbery in the “fedi”-verse will be it’s own demise.

It's a sign that #nostr might be winning.
