I just talked to a small sandwich shop in DC currently using Square, he’s into Bitcoin but he told me he’s switching soon because First National Bank came in and offered him a better deal with fees.. anything you can do to keep him onboard?
I’m sure it was discussed, but why not have “pay with Bitcoin” (received as USD ) on by default and have the activation instead be for receiving/holding Bitcoin?
Because the merchant has to go through kyc... again.

The main issue we found was that the Bitcoin payment feature is only available on Square Point of Sale app in POS mode and not availble in Square Retail app. That wasn't clear in the onboarding process and customer service was a 5 hour attempt, got dropped twice, with people who didn't speak english or have any idea of how to solve it. We pay for Square Retail for additional features so are suprised not to have the new payment option.
I figured it out eventually by trial and error. It required downloading the Square POS, putting it in pos mode and setting up all the tiles and training all the staff on different UI just for a payment option.
Just went through the same issue!! I opened the app and switched to Standard POS mode and finally the Bitcoin payment showed up at checkout!
There was no Bitcoin payment option in when the app is in service mode!

Yes, I hope that since I use and pay for Square Retail ( and the settings in the dashboard give me the "your all set" prompt ) that the option will be added.
I always hate when companies have some unspoken details on a product launch that they just assume everyone knows.
Also the constant assumption that the business owner is standing behind the counter taking transactions.
Any and all details on how the “convert USD into bitcoin payments” feature works. To me this is HUGE (if I understand it correctly) the issue of tracking HIFO and LIFO is hard to explain to customers and I don’t want get into providing tax advice 🙄
It would you greet to point people that are worried about income tax/capital gains on daily transactions could deal with it this way (similar to strike I think ???)
I had a question about Bitcoin conversions: is there any minimum? I have noticed that small amounts are not being converted to Bitcoin, even though the balance is shown as ‘Converting by 8am’ it just stays stuck like that indefinitely.
When are Bitcoin payment and conversion features coming to Canadian Square merchants?

Your brain has to be fried. 2 questions that are prob answered somewhere.
1. No taxable event for the seller when they choose to receive btc payments as usd right?
2. Why no option to accept a certain. Percentage as btc when paying in btc?
Thanks a ton for getting this rolling. Couple things:
1. Just need the word ‘sats’ where the sats are displayed. Will save a ton of scarce human time trying to explain why it doesn’t say sats.
2. Are the instant USD to BTC payment conversions working in cashapp?

I was shilling square bitcoin payments at the farmers market this weekend. Bitcoin awareness/interest is very low among farmers/biz owners. But 0 fees and receive Bitcoin payments in cash were both appealing to those I spoke with. I think the goal would be to get “Bitcoin accepted here, 3% discount” (same as cash) signs posted. Just to increase he metal public awareness.
One question - all the merchants just use square on their phone. No one has a dedicated terminal. Does the bitcoin payments work in that case?
What info is displayed to the merchant about the seller who pays in bitcoin?

Cash App taking the lead again in bitcoin development is huge! I think limits are still too restricting and would love to see Cash App pay online allow bitcoin payments! Keep up the incredible work!

Why is bitcoin only enabled in the retail version of the square terminal POS? I went into a coffee shop and asked if they accepted bitcoin. He said I was the first to ask and he looked into where it is in the settings but couldn’t find it. nostr:npub17xu3rtcu0ftqw03mswa8a2ngz3nsgrs0h0wjv4z942qwvhp8fs3qzcadls mentioned that he had to switch away from retail mode to the other for enabling it. Can we fix that?
