I've been thinking about how to crowdsource funding for the continual development of NostrGram and it's hardware costs (which will be rising soon as Nostr grows in popularity -- 150gb in bandwidth used so far this month!). I'm thinking of doing something like a Patreon where people can support the project and get a badge on their profile (if they want) showing their support, along with a higher priority for feature requests, that kind of thing.

If you are willing to support NostrGram in this way, what kind of benefits would be nice to have for doing so? I'm all for value-for-value, so those willing to pony up even a few dollars a month/year in support of the project certainly deserve some preferential treatment and priority.

I want to keep all the features free for everyone if at all possible. Some folks simply can't afford it. I get a lot of traffic from a lot of countries.

NOSTR is to empower users not to empower software. keep it simple and you will win. I dont understand why a client is consuming so much bandwidth if connection.pushing and getting events are on client side yo should keep it more simple .... It remembers me the oldie classic marketing tricks as oldie social media products did. Good luck.

consuming so much bandwith server side* I dont understand why, maybe your app it is not that simple as nostr protocol spirit....

Badges sound cool but I’d avoid patreon or any others like it. We need recurring on lightning. Build this and you can sustain yourself :)

I’m ready to contribute. Being involved in discussions about where we take this invention is all I want in return.

nostrgram is like premium service to me in terms of web clients. Wouldn’t mind paying a little to help. 🤙🏻

I'd love to see a complete zap history for a note. Who and their total zapped.

It would be cool to leverage this information for things like crowdfunding. For example, you could give premium access to accounts who zap your note by at least some amount.

You can see all the zaps to a note in NostrGram by clicking the number under the Lightning Bolt icon on a note. Very few zaps are including the amount right now, though (even though the NIP says they "SHOULD", most don't) so totals aren't available.

Place the zap LN icon on all notes. If the user has configured LN they get the zap, if they haven't the client developer gets it. Be open about it. Win win as I see it.

Is 150GB of bandwidth the problem? Hetzner gives 20TB per month.

Oh no, it's not at all a problem atm. But NostrGram used 8gb last month and is already at 150gb so far this month -- so you can see how fast this is growing. And as the database grows in size it will require sharding and replication. NostrGram already has tens of thousands of people using it every month, and that will grow, too, requiring additional resources to handle the load, load balancers, servers, etc. I'm thinking forward.

Everybody loves a good OG badge

Can I recommend if you want to crowdfund geyser.fund is the go. Bitcoin only. Good plebs and are integrating with nostr believe. #[2] is your man.

I'll DM you also now

I certainly want a bitcoin option but not everyone is a bitcoiner so I need a fiat option too (which I can then put into bitcoin lol)
