#asknostr Do you think bitcoin or monero is superior? Why?
Discussion
nothing is superior for privacy when USER IS DUMBAZZ
#bitcoin πͺ
Monero seems better. Do you have any real argument against monero rather than "have fun staying poor"
Monero is a shitcoin with unlimited supply just like fiat. Monero has no incentive to hold for a long time. It is designed to just buy drugs and dont use it again unless you need it. If you hold it you will lose money and stay poor. Holding #bitcoin protects your wealth because it's a strong money, when you die in 90 years your bitcoin will still be 21.000.000/your share, In 90 years monero's supply will be 3x more so your same amount of monero will worth less.

Monero because if more people mined it and used it than Bitcoin, it should work better than Bitcoin in pretty much every way
What bothers me is that Monero has an unlimited supply.
No total supply cap, but there are only a certain number of tokens issued to miners each day
If you have unlimited time to live, technically, yes, you're right.
However, if you don't have unlimited time to live, then the answer to that is no.
Also the tail emission replaces lost coins which actually keeps the supply stable. Similar to how gold that's mined today replaces some gold that sank on ships that have never been found, etc. It's still completely and algorithmically predictable supply. You know how much will exist and when it will exist.
Also, since the tail emission is fixed, it always trends twoard zero even if it never hits zero.
In around 65 years, for example, the inflation rate of Monero will be 0.525%/yr. At that time there will be 30 million Monero in existence, up from a current supply of 18.6 million.
I see. Why do you think most libertarians embrace bitcoin rather than monero? In paper monero is superior to bitcoin but bitcoin's value keep getting better against fiat money. And is there any team behind monero that can change the rules at anytime?
I actually don't think libertarians are embracing Bitcoin anymore. I think that libertarians used to embrace Bitcoin, but I think it has been corrupted, and most libertarians have seen that and moved on to Monero.
There is no team behind Monero that can just change the rules at will. It takes an effort of the community, just like it does in Bitcoin, in order to change the rules, so I highly doubt that it would occur.
Hard forks do happen in Monero, but that's only after extreme community consensus and discussion has occurred.
The reason for this is that the Monero community knows that software is an ever-evolving thing and sometimes needs maintenance that is not backwards compatible.
Anytime a hard fork does come, the community is notified well in advance. For example, there's going to be a hard fork in probably the next six months to one year, but we've known that it was going to occur for something like two or three years at this point.
Well, i still see many libertarians support bitcoin or gold but very few monero. Even in this thread. I need to study more before jump into btc or monero. But monero seems better. The fact that bitcoin comes with literally zero privacy is irritating me.
Nostr is biased towards Bitcoin because most apps don't have Monero tipping
A lot of Monero users and devs avoid nostr because they believe it's not a serious project
nostr:nprofile1qqs8wakr9493685t725kh2ltgwke4hs400fk8kymslak8eh3g42c3zqppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qyvhwumn8ghj7urjv4kkjatd9ec8y6tdv9kzumn9wshsvm55p5 is right. Nostr is a bitcoin haven. Monero people are not well liked but the ones who are here are willing to do battle in the very heart of the viper den.
I find Nostr quite impressive. Personally, I had never used any social media before Nostr. The fact that it doesnβt support Monero doesnβt make it a bad platform.
Oh, i think nostr itself is rather neat. I am also a big fan of lemmy and the fediverse, but you get a LOT of stateists over their who really dont like opinions against their slave masters. At least bitcoiners (the real ones) also push for the state to be defanged or eliminated.
Agreed, but it will be better when there's more Monero integration π
Monero because its untrackable by default which makes it a proper replacement for cash. Bitcoin already showed weaknesses with the trucker protests when they flag the coins and can then give you issues redeeming them.
