DIY painters: painter’s tape or a brush shield? Which do you use? #asknostr
Discussion
painters tape when I roll. shield when I cut in...
and dont forget, keep a wet edge.
Shield is new for me. After three houses and many rooms painted over the years, I’m liking the speed of the brush shield.
Good quality painters tape, like 3M. timing is key when removing the tape. Not too soon, not too long.
Another tip I learnt for interior house painting that works well, is if you have plasterboard/drywall ceilings and are going to paint them white, mix in a cup of the wall colour to the can of ceiling white to help soften the contrast with the walls. Still looks white, but it makes a difference in the feel of the room.
Oh that’s some next level shit! Love it. #protip
Tape. Those shields just don't work and they're fiddly to hold.
I’ve been tape until today. The shield took some getting used to. It’s fast!
I suppose it depends how much you have to do. If you have a lot to paint in one colour and you can learn the physical skill of welding the shield quickly that's worth the effort.
If you're an occasional painter or you have several colours or tight corners, or even small rooms, then I think tape is easier for most of us.
I guess it really depends on your dexterity. If it's good use a shield. If it's average or lower use tape.
I love using tape it’s easy and consistent. But I’ve got a few long runs on ceilings so trying the blade/shield thing. It’s all about the right method for the need.
