I think I've been part of enough male-dominated cmmunities in my life to say that they'll do just fine without woman to "keep up a constant chatter". But yea - that's exactly it - I'm on Nostr, to get a slice of the world. Kinda stay on top of what's going on; Get other people's input; Read about what they are up to.

Here it's just Nostr, Nostr, Nostr, Bitcoin, Nostr.

Who cares? I mean really? If that's your life, I'm kinda sorry.

So all of it. We need more woman. More man. More or whatever's in between, above or below. It's just so goddamn boring around here.

I mean respectfully 1% of woman actually care

The men when they come the woman will come since they money is with men.

Men is who she's blood while we protect our woman.

But I understand if you haven't got outside lately. 🤣

Plus #Nostr so small the Devs are still controlling the narrative for now.

I literally threw a thesis out there about #Bitcoin and people was like.... ( im going to kill myself ) lol very fragile here still

Men like talking about things, women like talking about people.

Nostr right now is full of dudes talking about how to solve problems in Bitcoin, new features for Nostr, etc. It's great if you care about that stuff.

The thing that makes a social network social, though, is the people. Women typically take more interest in people, which helps balance out the tone and topics of online activity.

You say its boring around here but I see you follow like 60 people. Thats like complaining its wet when youre sitting in a pool.

I follow 1000+ people and my feed is constantly full. Yes there's a lot of bitcoin and nostr content but there's also a ton of completely unrelated content as well. Art, music, homesteading, agriculture, diy, cars, cooking, just to name a few.

Yes, you're right. I usually hang on global though - maybe I don't have the right relays on. I'm sure if I invest more time, I can improve the experience --- but that's kinda it. How can we improve the onboarding experience?

Is there any other way to explore, except for tags?

Maybe some apps I'm missing that make this easier?

Take a look at nostrdesign.org

Seen this; Was the first page I've looked at, developing a client :)

Cool. There are many proposed solutions to some of the things you’ve been asking about. Just a matter of time until everything shapes up. It’s all a lot of work.

Absolutely, things will look totally different in a year.

Or maybe they won't. Maybe Nostr won't be around any longer, or the community just a few hundreds big. Or maybe, there's a better protocol, to replace Nostr - I don't know - What I know is, I'll keep complaining because usually complains yield good suggestions from people smarter than me.

Constructive feedback is very valuable and I’m glad you’re airing this out for everyone. It’s hard to hear these things sometimes but there is truth in what you’re saying (at least to me). The way you phrase things doesn’t bother me, but it may affect other people who are doing their best to help in any way they can. You have to remember that even thought the community is heavily bitcoin focused, we can’t exactly dial the negativity meter all the way down. We need people to stick around and work on ways to grow the apps. A lot of it just comes down to getting the word out, even if nothing else changes from here on out (but it will). I would encourage you to be a bit more constructive in your observations. Or not, what do I know 🤷‍♂️ just a purple cat 🐱

well said. for me, I love people complaint. there is only two kinds of protocol, (A the one that people complaint it sucks, (B. the one that nobody use and care about

I see everything as feedback. Sometimes just less constructive. We need to hear all of it and not hide.

But I’m also up for the challenge. It’s a tall feat and that makes it all the more interesting. Nobody said it would be easy. But we have the right people here so I’m optimistic!

exactly

Your comments in this thread got me thinking and decided to write a note about it. Would love to hear your thoughts on it!

Also as a side note... I feel like global is a net negative for nostr. It doesn't put the best foot forward at all. It's a mess and the content is just too... crude? Not sure I have the right word to describe it. Sure it (sorta) helps in discovery but I think the positives it brings for new users are far far outweighed by the negative. It's all about perception, especially when it comes to early day adoption and global is just an ugly shitshow imo.

I wrote a tool to train your own filter against the global nostr feed. More signal less noise from the main vein. https://cafe-society.news/nostrposts. The default is my own personal preference for breaking news, less bitcoin. You can delete the default and start training your own filter - all client side training and prediction.

I'm glad this post is getting a good amount of attention. I've been saying for months that nostr is boring. Crickets every time! It's actually gotten worse. There was even a two month or so period where I stopped using nostr entirely. I've made posts about a variety of topics like physics, biology, real estate etc. Again nothing. Tbh, I kinda just gave up. People only seem interested in posting stupid memes and writing bitcoin fixes this or that. But, don't repeat this shit for ten months straight!
