I've always considered this guy a pest. It creeps up the trees. It seems like it would be detrimental to the trees growth. Perhaps I'm wrong. Maybe it is beneficial.

Changing the way one views the world is not an easy task. I'm hoping that learning more about permaculture will teach me to view things more holisticly.

Any thoughts on honeysuckle?

I think some honeysuckle is ok, but it sure will take over if not kept in bounds. The wildlife likes it though.

Honeysuckle doesn't damage trees, it's just that it's a climber and likes strong supports, so it climbs trees/fences. It gives off a sweetish smell attracting insects to the garden. On the downside it is very fond of aphids and some species are susceptible to powdery mildew but you need to read up on this

Amazing info. Thanks

No problem 🫂💜

Pluck the whole flower from the plant. Gently pull the green base from the rest without breaking the stamen. As the stament goes trough the hole, a drop of nectar will form. Enjoy the sweet treat.

Thanks

Source of regenerative mulch. Maybe fodder for goats?

Means I'll have to get goats

Can recommend.

I've been leaning towards sheep to start with.

Very similar in requirements. I’ve raised both. Ended up preferring goats. Specifically Boer.

Well that doesn't make sense, a Boer is a pig.

That’s a boar..

I've been called a bore before.

I see what you did there. Well played.

I use it to provide shade for the chicken run. It’s not toxic like some other climbing vines and it smells great.

Now I need chickens.

Let it grow on the lower parts of the tree, it can function as nest

Do you train it around the tree? It tends to just go up.

Bending it back to the ground and when time is good, cut the main branches loose from the trunk so they hang without any "tree support". I think this willake him slow his growth upwards. Altough Im not an expert.
