I say yet again: aircraft should not be used unless necessary, and most long distance trips these days don't even need to happen, let alone happen at airplane speed
Also, without reading more, I'm guessing it was a jet plane, because people are so prone to sacrificing safety for a pointless level of speed, it's a pretty safe guess
