Hey Nostr, what was your first ever job?🤔
Discussion
A busser in a restaurant.
First time hearing the word “busser”, thank you for new addition to my vocab💜
How did you find the job?🤔
Also called bus boy or bus girl!
I got the job through a friend of mine in high school.
What about you. What was your first job?
I think it was just helping the local community through a youth brigade, mowing lawns, or helping the elderly🫶 I think I was around 13-14 at the time💜
#[3]
That’s really nice, giving back to the community ⚡️💜
Absolutely, gave me a reality check of what life could be like, seeing a 70 year old man just living alone. Interesting perspectives for sure💜🫶
Thanks for sharing 💜 it’s absolutely heartbreaking to see someone living alone when they are old. I hope I’m surrounded by my family and loved ones when I’m this age.
Yeah, that’s so true. It’s also why I’m kinda scared of living a really long life tbh. Seeing everyone just die around you, and end up being alone. 💜
Same here
Butcher shop. Good to see your feeling better
Thanks buddy 💜💪
How was it working in the butcher shop?
I got the job because I thought Id get some free/discounted meats. We were poor so we never really had meat. After a few days of being surrounded by raw meat I didn’t even want it.
The intestine barrel for sausage was the worst. Opening that just emitted a cloud of stench.
Also the smoked mozzarella was funny. Everyone said ours was the best. We used an abundant fuel source in the inner city to burn. It was a familiar smell to everyone so it sold. LOL discarded newspapers. 😂 as an adult I wonder if the ink fumes are even safe.
Oh wow, I can totally imagine. It definitely leaves a mark, every time going past the meat isle in a grocery store, must be really different for you.
I am glad you made it out buddy, really am 💜🫶
My first job was working at Steak and Shake. They started me off making the shakes and desserts
Abattoir. When I first left school. My job was to remove the brains from 3600 sheep a day.
Yet again, another word I didn’t know. Oh wow, that sounds gruesome. How did you end up at a job like that?🤔
Stacking the shelves at a hardware store… Now I’m stacking sats 🥞🤝
I hostess at a football game lounge it was a vibeeee 💯💯 you just had to come and look cute heheheh also you meet really cool people :)
Would’ve gotten all the tips there, if it was me 👀 Damn, would’ve loved to work at a football lounge, I played football ever since I learned how to walk, until my ankle injury🫶
Just so we’re clear and not to derail the thread, we’re talking about football ⚽️ right? 😊
Absolutely, no ‘handegg’ chat here 💜
The beautiful game 🫶🏽
This was like 4-5 years ago, it’s me on the left 💜
aww so you don't play anymore?
With friends at the beach during the summer, but not during any other seasons as it stands no. If there was a community in our uni that played, I definitely would 💜💜
ohh at least you still play during summer ☀️💜
Yeah love it so much honestly, I don’t actually know if I ever had it in me to actually go pro🤔🤷♂️
it doesn't even matter, it's a great sport even just for fun 💜💜
Oh absolutely🫶🫶🫶 You any good? Or you not into any team sports like that?
hahahahahahaha I literally flinch if someone throws a ball at me hahahahaha I don't play any sports with a balls... used to do ballet and ballroom dancing tho :))
🤣🤣🤣 So no beach volleyball playing with you, huh?
Damn, so you must be hella flexible and have a good sense of rhythm then? 👀
I took some ballroom dancing class years ago for the high school ball, wish I was a lot better at it. It’s like the coolest thing ever to know how to do. Especially as I really have got a great sense of rhythm myself 💜
hahahahaha no not with me ahhaahhahaha 🤣😅
it used to be much better but it's still pretty good hehe
yeah, I love it! it's so much fun! I also did contemporary and that was fun too, I liked that it had less rules
but then I grew up and i became 169 cm and i became too tall for a dancer 🥺 and I got into theatre hehehe I liked that much better tbh.. dance can be pretty toxic unfortunately
Oh come ooooon, beach volleyball is absolutely great fun, you’ll get around to it eventually🤣
Daamn, some of the contemporary I’ve seen… The control over your body you must have is absolutely immense and astonishing to see. Wait huh?? There are height limits for dancing?!? I’d fit into theatre really with my bubbliness tbh.
Also explain me how dancing can be toxic?🤔🤷♂️
Hahaha its fun if you can actually hit the ball ahhahahaha
you would definitely fit in the theatre crowd!!
Well when you have a dance partner that's as tall as you or even smaller is not really what the judges will like :// even tho the people in my country are pretty tall there is not a lot of male dancers and most of them are my height
it's toxic because its very competitive, and the girls are very mean... I'm very sensitive and I can't handle all the hate from the girls also as a kid i was very shy and I didn't know how to defend myself
I’ll absolutely teach you some volleyball, it’s absolutely great fun and makes for a great workout + tan during the summer 💜
Glad I won’t atleast have the height problem, blessed with genetics to be atleast be over average height in that sense. Honestly feels like the sweet spot.
That’s so unfortunate because dancing is so intimate and amazing thing to do, but I’ve learned through my younger sister how girls can be really mean like a bunch of snakes 🐍🐍 with each other.
awww you're too sweet! 💜🌸💜🌸💜
yeah... girls can be really nasty sometimes...
Hey, just a guy. 💜
Yeah, the mental gymnastics y’all go through and just the challenge of not getting traumatized through teenage years must be immensely difficult 💜
hahahaahaha you're so funny 🤣🤣
yeah it's not ez but once you're out of high school and you choose who you hang out with is a lot easier :)))
Ohhh it so much is. No wonder I speak to anyone from high school 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
At the end of the day it’s just a bunch of random people you’re age put into the same group for 9 years. The odds of getting on with any of them aren’t really that big💜
hahahahahso true, I'm the same... the girl I mentioned in my last post was the only high school friend I stayed in contact with and now even that is gone ahhahaha
So much of this 💜💜💜💜 That’s just life, no need to keep bad energy and toxicity around you. Find people who you want to be like and that inspire you 💜🫶
Universe always introduces somebody new and better into your life, after letting the unhealthy one go💜
exactly!! 💯 that's how I view it too, it's important to be able to let go because holding on can really hurt sometimes 💜💜💜💜
hahahahaahhahaha yess ahahh
hahahhahaha
oww I'm sorry to hear you had an injury.. I really hope it healed by now 🫂
It has, just really tough for me to play mentally these days. As I’m really competitive, then I play to win, and get frustrated as I’m not as good as I used to be back in the day 😆
owww I get it... 🥺
Hey that’s just life 💜🫶 I got really close to a youth national team training call up back in the day, but literally had the ankle injury in two weeks after my coach mentioning that 🤷♂️💜
Technically Started working at a Wendy’s when I was 16
My parents owned a lawn service tho and after school I would help them mow lawns and they taught me to keep track of my income. Started mowing in third grade 😅😅
That’s nice that you started early buddy, probably helped you a lot in the long term for sure 💜🫶
First job was in a book shop. The best part was unpacking new incoming books. My longest job contracts have been as forklift operator, mainly high-lifting Reach but also spent one year driving a Counterweight.
Work at a forklift start-up as we speak. Really not a mechanical guy at all, but it’s still really interesting as it’s a completely new world for me 💜
Forklifts changes how you interact with the environment. Once you are in the seat you are one with the machine. The forks become extensions of your mind.🙏

Damn, never really thought about it like that, but it really makes sens eif you put it like that 💜🫶
I'm always impressed by how fast and accurate a great fork driver is and also how spatially aware you need to be of everything around
Thanks. Some of my colleagues would sometimes walk across the shipping area reading their phones while walking and they were safe every time. No injuries in 20+ years of driving. 😎
A banker
Damn, that’s pretty high up for a first job, no?
Just means he didn’t have to work until after college
here in India the job scene is different
tbh not a fancy one bro, i was just handing HNI clients ( damn fiat ) sales & marketing job
Huh, maybe 🤔🤔 Still a lot higher up than mowing lawn or working at a coffee shop, you know🤷♂️
but i didn’t get paid for first two months 😉
Huh, that’s weird company policy. Was it made out to be a trial or an internship?🤔
so later on i found out if i don’t get any clients to open up HN accounts i don’t get paid
Commodities Options Pit Trader in Chicago
Damn, that sounds really good. How did you like it?💜
Taught me:
Personal responsibility
Risk management
…and a lot of Stress and Laughs
Basically a perfect job for my 20s
Really necessary lessons at that age for sure, still working in a similar field these days?
No. I saw that people weren’t happy running there own money and led to negative outcomes most of time. Got married and walked dogs for a year/volunteered at yoga studio—then have spent last 20years in a positive environment leading teams of amazing people
Much happier 😂
Dude, so happy for you honestly 💜🫶 Never really tried yoga tbh, might be something I’d need to look into🤔
🤙
Yoga keeps ya healthy and teaches ya how to breathe
Well worth the time❤️
Zap ⚡️
Huh, been recommended that and meditation for ages. It has been over recommended so much that I have a weird reflex about not wanting to do it. Probably because of all the cringe social media content around it how it’s a “fix it all” and everything 💜
It’s not a panacea. Plus I did a lot of yoga years ago when it was basically free…..I still don’t understand paying for yoga, but I’m old school…now I have my own practice:::the “scene” these days I don’t recognize, I always recommend free classes/local rec center-gentle yoga/seniors yoga…I love these type of classes. Great jump off point
Tough to really find free classes, as everybody wants to have a startup and offer a service these days, instead of doing it for the greater good and having a positive impact on the community 🙏 Will get around it once my schedule opens up a bit
off-campus job at a newsstand in new york :)
Damn, what’s NYC like? Never been there? Worth all the hype that it deserves?
was a student back then- been almost a decade now lol.. but bro the vibessss when i was there 🔥🔥
Giving away sats to the Free
Sounds absolutely amazing 💜🫶 Man I wish I could visit NYC one day💜
bro, for sure you will and am gonna remind you of this convo we had here🤞🏼🫂💜
You need to show me around buddy 💜
Absolutely will come back to this🫶
done deal 💜🤙🏼 and bro, if you ever make plans of visiting Mumbai (India) you know where to drop a message :)
Damn, India sounds like an absolutely amazing place to visit. I will 100% love the food there for sure 💜
bro, i’d be happy to host you and yesss the food here is 🤤 💜🤙🏼
I was like 16 when I worked for Winn Dixie, I was a bagger lol job consisted of bagging groceries and bringing in carts off the parking lot inside the store, it taught me a lot of things.. one of them was that time was more valuable than a paycheck.. I spent two summers working while others came in to get their supplies for the beach n whatnot.. that’s when I realized I’d much rather be the one being attended than the one attending.. so it was just a matter of figuring out how to get out of that paycheck cycle, it was a great stepping stone 🫡
Damn, sounds like it taught you a lot💜🫶 How’s your career turned out so far buddy?💜
So far so goood!! Saved up enough to be able to take risks, now I don’t get paychecks.. I negotiate equity for value every other quarter, and learned the power of networking so I bring in clients & investors and receive splits. Just got promoted the other day so that’s fun idk what’s in store for me just yet but I’m looking forward to it 🫂💜
Damn sir, that’s sounds insanely good. Hope I have a career anywhere as good as you do💜 Huge congratulations on the promotion🫶🫶🫶
Thank you tanel means a lot 💜 tasting the idea of freedom one time was enough to shift my whole mindset towards achieving it! Anybody can do it and do it in their own way 🤝🫂💜
Was an early neighborhood lawnmower for cash at 13, but my first W2 job was at McDonalds. Learned a lot there as a 16-18 year old.
What’s a “W2” job?
What lessons did working at McDonalds give you? 🤔💜
Understanding standardization, process and logic.
Learning people, profiles and conditions.
Also the secret recipe of the Big Mac sauce
Did you lose any appetite towards McDonalds and fast-food, after working there, or what kind of effect did it have on your perspective towards the whole industry?
Not really. I had a gf at the time and I’d make her and I special burger combos and bring her leftover apple pies lol.
I worked there when they had a smoking section and a playground. Todays McD’s is a different world. There are people who are comfortable making their living working there. A regular opener who worked there for 10+ years. Managers who were there for a career.
I used to give my co workers and managers rides home. I had a car at 17 and they would have no choice but to walk home because busses weren’t running.
Gas (Petrol) Station/Deli Mart lackey doing all the cleaning and dirty work.
Damn, sounds rough, but like also great experience. How did you find it for you?🤔💜
Was a very young teenager. I didn’t stay long. Certainly made me realize what I didn’t want to do at that age. It was an under the table, below minimum wage job too. The owner got his money’s worth though!
Unofficially - shoveling snow 🥶
Officially - Dairy Queen 🍦
Both sound cold as hell, how were those jobs? Enjoyed them?
Graphic Designer 👩🏻💻 I was so proud of that job ✨ thought I became financially independent 😂
