Pretty common to say in Australia. Took me a while to get used to it and not think they were low key trying to tell me they weren't straight.
Lol just say husband or boyfriend if you're a guy, partner should be reserved for rodeos and LLPs

Eh, I don't know, people around town ask me where my "friend" is when I'm not with my husband, I don't correct them, I'm not interested in imposing my lifestyle choices on anyone. I have a particular sympathy towards marriage being a religious institution. 10 years going strong, this is who I'll spend the rest of my life with, and fuck taxes, all I need to know. I'll use husband in the context of I'm talking to my boss and he's asking me why I'm taking time off, or in legal settings, my husband isn't estranged from anyone close to us so we just use first names like normal people.

Was married once and she was my wife.
The lady I am with now and have been with for 17 yrs is my partner in life. Awesome.
