doing things centrally is just the path of least resistance for a lot of things if you are aiming at scale. If we dont say anything when they choose the easy centralizing and censoring path then the behaviour will spread unchecked and morph into "standards" and protocol

I did wonder if this article was putting way too much weight behind moderation being an adoption issue. If anything people want the tools to mute topics (bitcoin ahem). Bluesky has a somewhat dominant niche userbase where moderation is a super high priority. I'm not convinced that priority ranking is universally applicable. Eg Why is twitter so used and I believe growing(?)? With seemingly less moderation? Or an increased hands-off approach. Bluesky has eaten the exodus of those against twitter's approach and they are happy there, I doubt this is as universal.
I've been acquainted with Rabble for a few years from SSB. He was pushing the same centralised moderation schemes there, but the pushback was so fierce he left SSB, at least for a while.

If Microsoft gives the thumbs down to your note, Rabble's bot sends out an automated complaint. Like an automated DRM takedown, but with no teeth.
Some relays will delete notes based on complaints, but other than his own relay i dont think anyone paid attention to the bot.
I think he's taken it down for now, he wants paid staff to supervise it but hasn't found the right investor.

i think that reporting has a value, it's just that you can't evaluate it without a secondary system for determining the trust level... WoT will probably go a long way with this - you can set a confidence level based on your social network distance to the reporter, that declines with the further away they are... but this all needs to be tested in production
