Is there a tool that allows you to easily re-sign certain events with a new key? Could be useful in case your key got compromised aka account transfer, among other things. #asknostr #devstr

This gives me a new project idea 🤔

Do it.

ya that would be cool. The ability to mass upload all my notes to a new npub.

Yeah, I'm kinda surprised that I didn't stumble over it yet.

This is going to be a stupid question but how could relays validate that you should be able to resign?

Also an attack vector, very easy for someone to clone your account 😅

True, but that's happening already anyway

yeah true, but having an easy tool means every noob can do it... 😅 Still it would be a usefull tool. It would also be nice to have a backup nsec already, and you already sign an event now that that is your backup. So in case you get hacked/lose your primary key, people already know what is your backup. But actually this should be done on some blockchain, so you have a reliable timestamp that you signed that in the past. There should be a nip for this 😍

This idea exists already, and i dont like it. Il see if i can do a better explaination of what i think how we should approach this whole key/identity issue to begin with. Spoiler: Identity =/= pubkey, and it is people that assume that is the case is the root of all the issues imo.

Please write about it, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.

You can easily do that with the omnipresent nak:

nak req --author 6e468422dfb74a5738702a8823b9b28168abab8655faacb6853cd0ee15deee93 wss://relay.damus.io | nak event wss://relay.damus.io

Dont know what the 'among other things' are, but i dislike it.

Much rather see the addoption of a fairly simple protocol where you can simply reference a different npub up until a certain date, going off on Nip-03 ots events.

Re-signed events is beyond ugly for all kinds of reasons. Maybe i would be ok with them if the new events include a reference to the orginal, that might also work.

Yeah, it's not pretty indeed. And on 2nd thought it only works for events that don't have any interactions, e.g. you'd lose all replies etc. Hm 🤔

Yeah, among other things, that indeed is one aspect that immediately undermines the notion that this is a simpel sollution that sort of works, because it doesnt.

What undermines my proposed sollution, and causes problem in general with a key compromise is that kind0 are so neurotic in being replaceable, so odds are old (correct) versions probably simply wont exist anymore.
