I listened to some AI generated music lately. There’s plenty of it on YouTube.

-Vocals sounded fine. Similar to any auto-tuned singer. A rehash of a rehash.

-Lyrics had some individually poetic lines, but didn’t make much sense when strung together. At best their meaning was vapid, and at worst literally incoherent.

Oh, listening to the chili peppers?

Lol! One of the worst bands ever 😂

Its super weird to me. I suppose it's inevitable.

Very dubious AI will be able to create real art because art is a kind of truth, and truth is only accessible to consciousness. No matter how clever it gets it’s only operating in the world of 1s and 0s.

it could repeat truths… in different variations maybe. The repeated truths would probably be lacking in actual experience.

I maybe make something out of it.

Must be listening to 90's alt-rock and grunge.

Do you remember buying a tape or cd, and being excited to see all the song lyrics written inside? Looking back, I’m sure some of those songs didn’t make a ton of sense- but some did. And knowing your fans would get that new album and listen all the way through and look at the lyric sheet must have meant something. I don’t think I would know more than two consecutive lines of any song in the past 10 years. But I could go line by line on songs from the 90s that never even got on the radio…

Ai don’t get love and sadness , the two main ingredients of music.

I've been playing around with SUNO AI and the results were pretty impressive. You can give it your own lyrics and tell it specifically how each part of the song should sound like. If you have a recording of something you can import that and rework it with other instruments and vocals. Comissioned music is basically dead now.

The music I listened to was via suno.

I think it’s a powerful tool. Especially for drafting. And the way it sounded was solid.

The lyrics were the Achilles’ heel. And they were clearly AI-generated although I don’t know by which program.

I know Suno at least let's you write your own lyrics. Made some silly songs for a blog post last summer, then found myself unironically listening to them once or twice.

So is that like a D, or maybe a D-?

Music has been so bad lately that AI music might be just fine 🤷

If I take some of those individually poetic lines that are beyond my ability to come up with and combine them into a coherent story and the release it with an AI generated bed, is that plagiarism? And who would be the one suing me?

It is still far from replacing the best singers and choreographers in the world.
