Some people want a yard that's nice for kids to play in, not a jungle full of pests & biting insects. There is a place for modern lawns.
Yea, the land beyond my property line is an untamable jungle, I'm down with supporting the ecosystem and all but I'll put anything on the lawn that doesn't poison the dogs at this point.
I can’t imagine a more un stimulating garden for kids than the one shown. What of ladybirds, butterflies, treehouses, dens ? Why don’t you just Astro Turf it and completely eradicate nature & be done with it.
It's entirely possible to have a lawn that's good for soccer and running around barefoot & still have garden beds for flowers & food, & a shady corner with fruit trees or pecan trees & a tree house or whatever. It's not some sort of evil to want a nice comfortable tick free lawn.
General principal is to make the species you want so healthy that there's no room for the unwanted species.

My go to is always PoW. We spent many an hour in childhood sitting in the grass barefoot pulling weeds by hand.
Anytime now I feel whelmed (not overwhelmed as I’m never presented with more than I am capable of) I sit in the grass barefoot and I weed.
The health benefits physically, emotionally, spiritually are immense. Vit D, biom building stuff from the grass and dirt, grounding and best of all you and your family get this little piece of paradise free from harsh chemicals. Not to mention you might also show your loved ones an invaluable coping mechanism for centre-ing themselves when they feel frizzy.
