IMO depends on if you’re going to go Sway or not. Smoothest, lightest tilling WM around. And foot terminal is nice. If i wasn’t on OpenBSD most of the time, i’d go pure Void Linux and Sway.

I have a heavily modded xmonad config which has been keeping me on X

ah.

yeah the switch is tedious. i switched from heavily patched DWM. But the Rofi and dmenu alternatives for wayland are great. Drew Devalts stuff for wl roots is quality

IMO Wayland is the IPv6 of windowing platforms.

Not really needed, poorly specified, not supported well on most hardware, and interferes with way too many things like OpenGL, Vulcan and APM/ACPI.

Doesn't deal with multihead or Barrier either.

I think it is, but I don't really stream or screen share with it. I just like the idea of a newer simpler cleaner UI engine.

Have been for several years in Gnome. I noticed less screen tearing in videos and games when I switched but otherwise pretty transparent.

It's ok, I use it with Gnome for years now.

yes, specially if you need multitouch gestures

Last I checked, it didn't support webapp screen sharing.

oof

It’s a #damus story. Just like how #nostr needs it more than anything else, but #damus not.

It’s great and smooth as butter on ayymd GPU. Not sure how was the state of things on novidia but I heard is not a pain free experience.

Depends on distro & desktop - and some apps...

Some screen sharing can be an issue.

More stable on gnome - mostly!

Work in process - like everything lol!

No issues here, but am not gaming or doing any screen sharing / capture.

It is quite mature on mutter and KWin and most programs support it, so yes, imo now is a good time to make the switch.

I have some problems with ```xdg-desktop-portal-wlr``` otherwise it's a perfect choice. And we have to choose what WM match our need, coz theay have implemented composition differently if you need rounded corner sway can't do that considering hyprland instead. Further more if your using ranger file manager we must use kitty term coz ueberzug cant render images on wayland.

At the end of the day ```bspwm``` is still my preferred.

Wayland is super nice, been running it for years.. all the bugs are fixed now and itz fast.

For gaming kde wayland is the best, very fluid. Just make sure to pick a distro that ships a recent plasma version.

It was for me. I was holding out bc of issues with screen sharing/capturing. But those have been fixed for the apps I use. If you are on a Laptop it is really worth it for the gestures imo. Worth noting I use Gnome, so your mileage may vary with a tiling WM.

Have been seeing a lot of dope rices recently on r/unixporn using Hyprland. May be worth checking it out or Sway to see if Wayland is for you.
