Yes always send swaps from a self custody wallet not an exchange to avoid any withdrawal issues. So if your trying to swap from an exchange you need to first send to a wallet you have the keys to and if you do not have a self custody wallet then you WOULD need to create one first. I assumed you already had one.

Is background sync on cake wallet automatic or do they need to do something in settings or leave the app open to sync?
I thought you needed to turn on background sync in Cake.

It's not on by default you have to go into the settings to turn it on. You sholdn't need to leave the app open to sync. A notification will pop up every now and then letting you know it's syncing. It worked great for awhile for me but recently been hit or miss. Sometimes it won't sync. Maybe has something to do with me using GrapheneOS
And contact Trocador with you transaction ID if you don't see any transaction after it is finished sync blocks.
Yes if it’s still not showing up after syncing then you will need to contact support.

Try to change connection of the nodes manually. I hade same problem with first transaction, changed node and went through real quick after that.

If your wallet was synced before you did the swap it should have been near instant.
It was a new wallet, there was nothing to sync.
Well your screenshot showed almost 14,000 unsynced blocks so it couldn’t have been synced each block is about 2 minutes so 28,000 minutes which is 466 hours or about 19 days of unsynced blocks. So your tx on the blockchain was complete but you wallet could only see up to 19 days ago because it wasn’t synced.

Steps: Make new wallet, save seed, click swap, input another wallet's ETH address for the USDC to pay for the XMR, click swap, wait.
At what step are you saying the wallet wasn't synced? Also, this is legit not a problem across 20+ wallets I've used in my Blockchain lifetime.

You didn’t do anything wrong the wallet and the node were not synced for some reason (bad connection through Tor maybe, internet connection or…).
A wallet needs to connect to a blockchain through a self hosted or public node. If the node or wallet are not synced you are not going to see the transaction. This would be true of any blockchain.
I might not be explaining it well enough but glad it worked in the end.

Contact their support. I have tried that multiple times, usually (at least with Trocador) they take action pretty fast.
