Anyone who reduces themselves and the world around them to a label is an idiot: libertarians, conservatives, socialists, atheists, theists,... they're idiots because they're religious (which is not faith). Their religion is the religion of the counterfactual. Making shit up to deal with the vastness of life.

Intelligence is literally the act of moving between and choosing among concepts, rather than confining oneself to one concept, from the assimilated form of inter "between" (see inter-) + legere "choose, pick out, read," from PIE root *leg- (1) "to collect, gather," with derivatives meaning "to speak (to 'pick out words')."

Faith, on the other hand, means living your life as it is, fresh and new in every moment, not perverting it into something it is not. Faith means to be wise about life out of unconditional love for the essence of life. That is: Creation.

You underestimate the importance of naming and grouping things, for advanced thought. Logic is not effective, without forming sets.

Claiming that there is no way to measure or to categorize persons is #StuffLibertariansLike, by the way. It's a way to eschew authority, since someone naming a group of people is defining that group, according to some particular set of characteristics defined by the name-giver.

To name something, is to take a position of authority, over it, like Adam naming the animals and Eve, in the Garden of Eden.

>>19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.

But for Adam[f] no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs[g] and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib[h] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,

“This is now bone of my bones

and flesh of my flesh;

she shall be called ‘woman,’

for she was taken out of man.”<<

God named Adam.

Adam named everything else.

This is the basic human hierarchy.

However, over-belief in authority is why so many people think conservatives and deists are less intelligent, and for good reason. Turning that on its head and assuming no authority at all isn't smart either. Obviously

No, I'm not. Naming things and reducing your understanding of things to such a name are very different. I've said that.

Most people would apply many different names to themselves, depending upon the topic being focused on. And they make up new names, for new topics, and they understand that certain characteristics span multiple names.

We can inhabit a plethora of overlapping sets, so it is hardly a reduction.

You’re proving and missing my original point now. We’re in violent agreement on this one it seems

Well, I guess I'm emphasizing that intelligence wouldn't necessarily lead to not-naming onesself, but perhaps, to having a more complex system of names.

Perhaps we agree.

That said, I never deny my various names, when they're used. I appreciate them all. There are simply additional names other people might wish to assign to me, that I refuse to accept.

That fits in well with my perception of you as intelligent. I think we mean the same thing.

Faith is the willingness to believe that something is true, absent definitive proof.

...and where does that take you?

To Heaven.

Another word you try to limit reality to, but if it makes you happy, go for it.

It brings me Hope and Love.

hope, love and "mind the gap" when you step aboard the flying saucer to heaven

do you have any wisdom on aliens... are they swarming nuke sites because they are trying to save us from ourselves, or do they just want more human slaves and don't want us to destroy ourselves for that reason?

I've never taken any particular interest in aliens. I'm more about fairies and nymphs.

reminds me to go walk among the dryads
