One thing I really like about technology is that in the long arc of time it isn't politicized. It just *is*.

In the emergent stage it's often politicized. But then eventually it just wins.

Electricity was a topic of political opinions until it wasn't. Same for cars. Same for Bitcoin. Same for everything that changes things in a big way.

Politics are powerful, but they are local and temporary. Technology is global and permanent. It either works and spreads, or it doesn't and fades.

Politics is transitory.

I hear you say that last part a lot and you should keep saying it. It's a brilliant insight most people don't understand.

if you think cars aren't politicized you're living under a rock ...

Cars beat horses despite political opposition.

Ironically they are being threatened again. I only buy old or low tech cars now.

Is there a list of new cars with no/low tech? I assume you are referring to network connectivity in particular (telemetry/remote control being especially risky).

I guess it depends on the country, but in many places it would be a list of zero, due to government mandates. (for example E-call, emissions reduction, etcetera). I think old cars will be the only option for the foreseeable future, which will become a problem as they eventually rust out or break down.

just going to link two of my articles on Anti-Car efforts of the WEF, which are euphemistically referred to among wider population as "Urbanism" ( internally referred to as "15 minute Cities" )

unless....the direct current electricity we use today only won out because of politics when the alternating current electricity Nikola Tesla envisioned was truly the better innovation

Where is DC used for power transmission? As far as I know it’s ACTUALLY exclusively.

HVDC for long distance transmission lines is totally normal for the last 20 years.

Local distribution, though, is AC everywhere AFAIK

Interesting. I imagine the AC use on local distribution has to do with the ease in creating relevant voltages for the application, eg. 12kV for short isolated runs to 6.5kV to pole transformers to 480/240/120 here in the US using smaller wires for the same power yield. I suppose HVDC for long isolated transmission would be more efficient, fewer inductive loses is my guess?

Right there with you!

Or splitting the atom in any which way. Or burning fossil fuels. Or, or, or ...

it took a long time for people to realize the true potential of gunpowder. it feels weird to know the value of Bitcoin while so many still don't

Politicians exploit Bitcoin because it possesses the characteristics of a religion, and a religion is far more powerful than any politician.

Similar to a god who empowers the priests, the priests may die, but God remains forever.

Constantine well understood this.

Yep - disruptive technology emerges bottom up and upends the top-down paradigms - if perceived as valuable by plebs it spreads and becomes widely adopted and all the politics (and media) are largely screeching about a disruption to the status quo

Technology is about disrupting the status quo

The more disruptive, the more screeching from the incumbent class
