The most banned book in America of all time is 1984 by George Orwell.

For that reason, I think Iโ€™ll read it.

Check out Brave New World too! I find it more entertaining, and it seems to be in color ๐Ÿคฃ

What I find amazing about it, is that much of what Aldous Huxley describes had not been invented, or even conceived of, when he wrote it in 1931. Test tube babies, miniature golf, helicopters, parties where people listen to electronic music while taking drugs and having sex are some examples that stand out.

Agreed. Far more entertaining ๐Ÿ™Œ

itโ€™s excellent, and for more terror after reading it, check out the film version actually made in 1984

Is that movie good?

Must read. If that's true it's news to me. I'm about 80% finished (it's the most dense section so far).

Animal farm is up next

Wait, is 1984 actually banned in some places inside the USA?

Great book, btw

And Erik is right, itโ€™s a good read

Who banned it? I mean I can understand that they would, but they were still encouraging kids to read it when my wife was in school 15 years ago

really ? must be the school.. I was in school at that same time n didnโ€™t get encouraged by the school to read it

I mean even when I was in school 25 years ago, it wasnโ€™t required even in AP literature classes, but it was on lists of recommended reads to get credit forโ€ฆ we were recently talking about good books for my teenage son to read and she had said that she read it in one of her high school classes because it was recommended.

Thatโ€™s crazy I wish I knew about it back then!! ๐Ÿคฏ

I thought 1984 was required reading in high school

It was for many schools. Iโ€™ve seen it go from required reading to banned during my own childrenโ€™s education. Luckily, they all chose to read it anyway. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™

Great book
