A new law planned in Germany will make stealing a meme "digital violence", even if you just use it in private messages.

Even worse:

The aim is to identify users of internet services, even if they post under a pseudonym.

Now that makes more sense.

😂 loool good luck with stopping meme spreading on Nostr!

Well, that's hilarious. I guess people in Germany have to be careful not to accidentally commit digital violence. It's a shame memes aren't categorized as harmless fun anymore. But I bet it'll make for some excellent office banter:

You stole my meme.

Sorry, officer. I wasn't aware that sharing funny animal memes was a serious criminal offense!

so these weren’t a joke? 😳

1) what

"... Dazu sollen Anbieter von Diensten im Internet IP-Adressen und Bestandsdaten herausgeben." 🤯

RIP 🪦

“digitale Gewalt” 😂

I just can’t

What is going on in Germany at the moment. Almost as bad as the U.K. 🤦🏻‍♂️

There is no single word about memes. But I don’t know the legal tenders about these, so might be true. I’m more surprised and shocked that messengers have to send the data about users. I hope that it won’t come

I am really surprised how well people were conditioned to not revolt when all this is happening before their eyes.

It really is amazing how easily people are brainwashed to not think for themselves.

Just send me all your memes and I'll post em all over Germany's ass.

"Digitale Gewalt ist nicht eindeutig definiert" — Absichtlich!

Also, how is this compatible with E2EE that most service providers claim to support?

Ironically, they are paving the way for nostr adoption.

hahahahaahahaha what a bunch of morons

Based, accelerate! You WILL have to do illegal things in the EU if you want to survive till 2030 without lizzard DNA in your blood stream and your purchasing power and dignity in tact.

You got to love German laws! Fucking morons. 😆

Yes, I am German, and yes, I voted for one of the parties in the government.

War is peace.

Freedom is slavery.

Ignorance is strength.

“GeWaLt!!!1!”

What a bunch of 🤡 It's very sad that this is the Minister of Justice of the German liberal Party.

Also Win-Win für beide! 🥹

But…. Are we Safe here on Nostr? We Are Safe Right?

I'm not 100% sure. A compliant relay logging ips could provide this info.

There’s relays that don’t log ip addresses, luckily.

No one is outraged about class justice in #Germany anymore.

I’m going to prison now?

Does the meme have to be stolen in Germany? Of German origin? By a resident of Germany?

Germany is a failed society

#[0]

Wow, Fourth Reich much? 🤦‍♂️

The motivation for this will be more obvious if we would know how an ownership ower meme is established in the first place. If the law passes then the next obvious step is

Scared? LoL 😆

Held in disbelief

…Priv messages aren’t private, huh

not surprised

Nostr Inc. needs to appoint a legal representative who is able to receive requests from German LEAs !

🤷

Yeah this guy haha, his face will count as digital violence.

I think with #Bitcoin and #Nostr we’re almost perfectly prepared against crap like that and other „protection measures“. There’s perhaps one more thing we need to make it finally bulletproof:

A truly decentralized messenger service. One good candidate is SimpleX Chat #[4]

And the winner of the stupidest government worldwide is... 🥁🥁🥁

Tadaaaaa 🎉🎊

Germany 🇩🇪

lol

#[2]

🤦‍♂️

What

Whut? 🤡

Has Germany undergone some serious cognitive deterioration?

All the smart people left

This is getting out of hand. Feels like every major country is trying to infiltrate end to end encrypted communication. That has been going on for a while now and getting more outrageous every day

#[0]

Very interesting. Good that we have Nostr now.

I thought they learned their lesson after WWII. Fucking National Socialists.

sounds like bs

#[0]

does it depend on how funny the meme is?

#[0]

Germany will not oppose Chatcontrol including scanning private messages.

This means the gov is breaking the coalition contract, opening the gates for orweillan tyranny.

#fckthisdystopia

(Sorry for the negative vibes here, but this is too important to go ignored)

So we need to customize each meme with something of our own?

🇩🇪=🇨🇳

There is nothing negative about pointing out the BS, it’s a positive.

See bullshit, say something.

It is dangerous, methods of the past mixed with tech from the présent could lead to catastrophic outcomes.

I am now back in Switzerland where I was born and I appreciate much more the democratic system here after living 15+ years abroad, not perfect but amazing.

It was shaped over more than 700 years in a spirit of decentralization. It has mechanisms in place that force multi partisan cooperation at the legislative level. The compromise can be at time frustrating but they’ve kept an equilibrium. Add to that the power given to the people to introduce and stop initiatives and we really start to talk about participatory democracy, or democracy.

Comparing the systems of other countries to this one makes me believe that these other systems are intentionally corrupted. I feel European, not born in the country of my heritage, moved around a lot, but not this EU. The democratic process has to be changed, Switzerland included.

Decentalized finance… check

Decentralized communication… check

Decentralized production… loading

Decentralized law… awaiting command

This has struck a chord, likely blurb out note incoming…

Germany taking the “monopoly on violence” to new extremes

wtf - what is the logic you use to arrive at this ?

They’re now policing “digital violence”… Not a difficult train of thought to follow.
