I’m in a quandary, please help me decide something:
The US federal government is:
A. Mostly worthless.
B. Totally worthless.

Yes.
Oof, the FEDERAL government?
B.
Mmm, well, there may be a place for NATIONAL defence. But that’s probably it.
B.
A.
Read Democracy by David Moss
There are reasons for nation states to exist.
Mostly. I’ve been to countries with no functioning government and they all suck.
What does no functioning government mean
No system of agreeing upon or establishing property rights, no system of impartial criminal justice, no community projects. Basically the strongest are able to impose their will through violence and the others aren’t able or willing to organize as a group to be stronger than the strongman.
99.9% worthless as measured by either where money is spent or where employees are focused.
Both.
C. Completely worthless.
I'm still trying to think of something that isn't worthless about them
A. American constitution = good. lots of American ideals are good. American gov’t today doesn’t really represent American theology IMO.
worse than worthless
actually *causes* harm
Only real if we the people believe they are real.
C. A threat to itself and its citizens
I mean.... Mostly worthless... Other than the bloated government maintains domination as a global super power allowing Americans the opportunity to front-run the rest of the world in most wealth-building strategies.
If you were Cuban and started your practice as a physician making $5k a year, I imagine the US Gov would seem pretty valuable.
(This coming from a Canadian that struggles with hatred for government while also recognizing my significant advantages in comparison to family in Vietnam)
C. Very very worthwhile to a few people
B
A
Mostly worthless and will collapse like the dollar
C, makes life worse for us and the world.
I agree. You are in a quandary. Your thoughts about the USA have absolutely no effect on it. My concern (and actions) relates to what I can do to minimize its negative effects and take advantage of opportunities for my growth.
B and Privatize it all but only with sound money aka Bitcoin
B - Government is designed to extract as much wealth as possible from the productive and pay themselves the spoils.
I misclicked... please reset the poll. 😂
C: an impediment to anything worthwhile.
Mostly worthless. It's still important to have a military. Although we spend way too much money on the military now.
B
3. Costly.
C: Was the best we could do but is now being made slowly obsolete.
Property rights and rule of law is better than most other places so not totally worthless. But very expensive and a lot of waste in the systems to ensure property rights and rule of law, for sure.
This should not work as reply bait.
Would you eat fish that's caught by using your own feces as bait?
Then why do you appreciate the engagement on a post this low-effort?
C. Murderous, enslaving, and demeaning with zero upside?
C. Hates you and wants to extract your energy while slowly killing you.
IMO, the concept of federal government has merit. The fact that it has been bastardized since its inception is a critique of people & incentives.
Democracy by David Moss plays out in case study form some of the problems Americans have faced throughout its history and will have you acknowledging the merits of a governing collective representing its constituents.
Are we talking about potential energy or kinetic energy?
C. Dont matter
Confused why no FUG option
