I wrote about the implications of open networks (including a lot of content regarding Nostr) for my recent article on Swan. And I'll be republishing it in a couple weeks on my website as well.

Hi, please post it on blogstack.io. It's like medium but using Nostr.

It would be a nice touch to also publish it over nostr, as long-form content (NIP-23).

It would show in sites such as habla.news , and could have nostr interaction (responses, likes, zaps, etc).

👍

I'm continually impressed with your ability to digest and explain technical information Lyn, as a software engineer I know how challenging this is and you are one of the best in this realm. Appreciate you and your work ♥️

What is great about open-source money is different people can use it has a basis for building financial products that cater to their region's specific needs.

- If you need more privacy you and those in your community could be running coinjoins

- If you need cheaper fees and frequent payments you could be running lightning

- If you need really simple user interfaces you can use ecash

While the base network and asset chugs along there are islands where people can use the value in the network and extract it into a layer that works for them.

🤙

Great work. I just posted this on Reddit. Lets see how long until I get another shadowban 😂

Evening literature! Thanks

My first zap...looking forward to reading this over the weekend. ⚡

"A middle-ground method that seems to be beginning to work at scale is the idea of distributed servers or 'relays'. In this model, not every user has to run a server, but individual servers are relatively easy to run, are financially incentivized to be run, and are therefore numerous enough that there is no way to control or censor the network."

Relays are run for fun nowadays. Most don't have proper funding. Donations could be an option. If clients start doing ads I think client devs then can make some donations from their earnings. Relays can't insert ads - the protocol is not suitable as far as I understand.

If a relay wanted to have an ad model, I imagine they’d be able to easily create bots that post ad content to their relay.

But they can't force anybody to see the ads, as long as clients only show you pubkeys you follow.

some clients might be open to rev share on the ad spend

Will zapping cause a Euro effect? Will a single global currency be bad for smaller countries?

The small countries will need to find ways to export more maybe. Big and advanced countries will easily sell to smalls. Euro zone had to support the smaller ones as far as I understand.

Pretty based of you for being on here

Fabulous Lyn keeps writing zappable content!

The most significant divide anno March 2023 is between those who understand this article and its importance and those who don't. Fantastic job, Lyn Alden.

You have described the real battle we are witnessing.

Thanks for your work

A comprehensive, understandable, and well organized piece.

Really well done, Lyn 💯🙏🏼

I have it bookmarked and ready as an excellent resource to share with others when the opportunity arises.

💜

I finished it late and reread some parts as soon as opened my eyes in the morning. In essence, it is a great piece about the conflict between top-down dystopian Big Data surveillance forces and bottom-up cryptography and decentralised open source freedom rebellion. It might be an intro to a book on this modern/technological version of the eternal struggle between tyranny and freedom.

Take time and read it.

still reading but came across an important statistic you included that is at the heart of my bitcoin value prop.

"Globally, only about 76% of people have an account at a bank or at a fintech platform that connects to a bank"

i haven't read through the link yet either so slap me if needed...but do you know the sample details of these "people"? e.g. is it adults who are between certain ages, or includes kids, felons, etc.?

Another brilliant piece, thank you Lyn - you're the signal the world needs.

Amazing as always
