What nostr has revealed:

1. We need more super simple UX lightning wallets. WoS is great but we need options.

2. Lightning infra is weak and needs work to scale. Props to those leading the way but much more work ahead.

3. Even with improved UX, newbs still perceive nostr client as difficult to use - we have to do better.

4. Plebs are the real bitcoiners who find signal in noise. To stay ahead, follow the plebs.

3. I think snort has a sensible onboarding process in the app

4. We should do what we can to reduce noise in nostr. Most live the signal here, not the noise. Mass tagging bots will be a challenge.

3. Ty ;)

Onboarding will get better too once we can recommend topics

#nostrdesign

What do you mean ‘recommend topics’?

Right now there’s not much to do but get lost in the global spam as a newly onboarded person. We can recommend #topics to follow which will be a better UX - something of interest vs seeing spam right away.

#nostrdesign

Got it - but when I click on #topics, or #nostrdesign, there’s no interaction. So are we saying this is part of the future roadmap?

Idea is that we start tagging things but maybe in future you can just pick out keywords from posts without the need to tag

Ah but I believe in nostr.band your all good.

See here https://nostr.band/?q=%23nostrdesign&sort=popular-month

Apps will prob start recognising hashtags. All a work in progress

I see myself as a newbie and it seems like that’s a way to address the problem of getting lost in the spam as you start off here..

As I see it, this will improve quickly. Client devs are aware of this issue. Amethyst has done an amazing job thus far. I have a super clean global. I also added a paid relay nostr.wine.

Shared filters over global was something we discussed a little while back @note1hd7n5ktxf6cnewus5jy5vuq2fylj0px3xpyhvvgw5wzmug6nq9xqvwvhlz

We need to be careful that diversity and freedom to design remains. So some clients will be popular and others less so. But each user can choose what they want and each developer can develop what they want.

Centralising is dangerous and jut like bitcoin the protocol must remain decentralised for anyone to improve

Finally say thanks to devs if you want. Some are listed here.

I think #[2] is suitable for newbs

My mom is not going to join nostr for its wallets. Also my brother is not going to join nostr for its only bitcoin payment mode. He is afraid of digital currencies because his lack of knowledge on security. First of all keep it simple.

I mean, nostr client developers are working only on zaps and wallets and on the "how many followers" this user has to show it nicely to user..... It remembers me creepy oldie social media marketing techniques. Crappy stuff. #KEEPITSIMPLE

Not really. A lot is happening that you are not aware of that I am.

Your mom, no offense, is likely at the end of the adoption curve. We’re very far from that.

First, we’ll get people who NEED nostr - both for speech and commerce. Then the more tech savvy will join. Then the Twitter crowd. And lastly, the moms.

I understand your reply, you are not offending! I think keeping it simple would help to adopt massively... although I understand your idea.

Well have simple single use clients for sure!

😅 sorry, but the first sentence in my head sounds really like an offense 🫣

I know how it is meant but you could also say thst to some random dude who is looking for trouble 🫣

I think it’s entirely possible in the future that people will use a client (maybe for notes but also for other stuff) and not know or care that it’s running on nostr.

Oh, 100%. This is already in development.

Nostr has revealed bitcoins limitless potential!

I'm a newb to lightning and i approve this message. Lightning is confusing to understand. and the lack of support for essentials like "lightning address" needs to be fixed. Literally all lightning wallets need to have a send AND receive lightning address. https://lightningaddress.com/

LNurl need to be the standard.

Also even with the lightning address it still seems doesn't work 100% all the time. its good but just not quite there yet.

Overall i get the idea and its really exciting to see, just needs more polish.

Also anybody new to this stop fighting it and just get a wallet of satoshi rest of them are a real mess around. if you want to own your keys you can always just send your sats to a non custodial later.. Trust me i fought this until i figured it out as well.. easier to send sats than to have a non custodial lighting wallet that has a receivable LNurl.

Who are these Plebs?

Do they really help?

Absolutely. If you have to ask …

Are you familiar with Patoshi Blocks? Will revealing him help Bitcoin Adoption?
