Twelve years ago my husband was told he needed either nerve blocks regularly or a coccygectomy (tailbone removal) to eliminate his debilitating coccyx pain from a fall.

I found an obscure forum on the internet talking about the condition and learned there was a physical therapist at Florida State who could cure it. Turns out one of his protégés was near our house! Hubs saw him for a single 3 minute (very unpleasant and invasive) session where his tailbone was popped back into place and it has never bothered him again.

I share this to empower you all once again to be your own advocate when it comes to your medical care and health.

Amazing

Wow, what are the chances that they lived so close to you?! That's wild. Glad he was able to get some relief!

It was so fortunate. I was making arrangements to go to Jacksonville when the professors’ office let me know of his former student who had an office here.

And I completely agree about being your own advocate. I have similar experiences (although not quite as amazing)

Awesome…..you two are lucky to have each other for past and future reasons that are still yet to play out.

When my wife was pregnant with our son, he was breech (feet down) fairly late in the pregnancy. We were going to a mid-wife, but did go to the doctor for a few ultrasounds. Doctor said we should just schedule a c-section and a natural birth was not going to happen.

My wife was set on a natural birth so we did some research. Found everything from yoga positions to underwater handstands as ideas for how to flip him. We didn’t write any of them off and started trying things with an open mind.

I kid you not, we went to the pool and she did two handstands underwater. She swore the second one worked and felt it right away. She was correct. The doctor was floored. 🤣

You’re kidding. I absolutely love that. My thought on things like this are as long as there is no possible negative consequences for the patient, what’s the harm? Particularly when the upside is so huge.

Incidentally the orthopedist told my husband before he went to the PT that it was “quackery” and could actually cause his pain to be worse.

I’ve recently found a PCP and Cardiologist with “don’t over treat” mindsets and it has been so refreshing and I’ve actually gotten better. Imagine that!

That is fantastic. There are still some wonderful, caring MDs out there who haven’t been chewed up by the system. I found an amazing Integrative medicine MD and have been thrilled with his care. No surprise he is concierge and doesn’t accept insurance, but what I save on not needing meds is worth it to me.

Yeah, my sister is finishing rotations now and she doesn’t care about the money or glory. It’s actually a second career for her. She just likes helping people and doing the right thing for them which is why she went down the DO path. I had never heard of it until she went to school. That is what medicine used to be.

Wow I had a very similar experience. The mid wife actually told us she was confident he was breech (by feeling my wife’s stomach) so we had done some research on natural ways to flip him based on her recommendations.

Doctor basically rolled his eyes at the idea that our mid-wife gave us this advice and that “99% of the time it doesn’t work”.

I wish I had a photo of his face when he looked at the ultrasound and asked how we did it. 😂

Wife replies “underwater handstand” 😏

Totally agree. We figured some yoga and a trip to the local pool was basically zero risk and would both be nice activities even if it did nothing 😂

I was in a bitcoiner clubhouse room one day and this lady came on. I vaguely remember her story of seeing 70+ doctors for some condition, all saying she was crazy and that there’s nothing wrong with her. The next doctor figured it out and helped her.

My memory might be off there, but I just remember how eye opening it was at the time. Truly goes to show nobody will care for you as much as yourself.

Yep. That meme “Don’t confuse your Google search with my medical degree” is ludicrous to me. It seems most doctors don’t have the time to get to know their patients thoroughly and treat them comprehensively these days. I know too many stories of misdiagnoses or people falling through the cracks of the medical system to count.

I’m lucky where I’m at to have access to some of the best doctors and specialists in the country/world and I’ve seen dismissive and outright “phoning it in” diagnosis.

Just like any occupation there’s shitty ones and really good ones. We’re just not allowed to really say that for some reason.

I think it’s like politics. Most go in smart and idealistic, but end up being victims of misaligned incentives and often disillusioned.

It’s awesome to hear this coming from a doctor. Thank you! We’re on our third pediatrician in 6 months trying to find one that will listen and not just prescribe. Luckily we think we found one.

So frustrating, but worth it to find the right physician. We were fortunate to have an old school solo practice pediatrician for 20 years until he retired three years ago. We have gone through 3 since. Hard to find any solo practitioners any more 😢

On a lighter note, our first pediatrician had the greatest evacuation plan sign of all time. My wife aptly renamed it to the “ejaculation plan”. 😂

Haha! The fact that it’s hand drawn is the best part!

Awesome story, thanks for sharing. I had always been told my sternum concavetum (chest with a dent in it) could only be fixed with expensive surgery. As I got more into resistance exercise, it started popping out on its own, with a sound similar to cracking your knuckles. The establishment doesn't know nearly as much as it thinks.

What?! That is incredible. Amazing what strengthening your body can do!

I know 2 people that have this condition and they both have Marfans syndrome.

Go Noles!

Your post is being widely read.

My hammock swing bolt broke and I blasted my coccyx on the concrete. Chiro did something similar. Very weird.

Ouch!!! So glad you got relief from your chiro. We have the most amazing Eastern Medicine chiropractor who has solved dozens of chronic problems for friends & family members over the years like carpal tunnel and chronic sinusitis, but his philosophy is that if it isn’t fixed in 1-2 visits, it can’t be corrected with chiro. My hubs had 2 adjustments and the improvement was marginal. Only PT’s can perform an internal manipulation which is what my husband ended up having.

Internal?! Sounds asspecially painful.

Indeed, only you are responsible for your body. And western medicine is a subscription model. Die and they loose, get well and they loose too. The sweet spot is alive but chronically ill. No thanks

🎯

I was sick for over 10 years after I had cancer in my teens. It only got better when I gradually shifted from western medicine to homeopathy, ayur veda etc.

Amazing.

Also extreme fasting kills cancer and apple cider vinegar kills moles and warts. Bandage soaked cotton over the specific area at night till gone.
