#[0] what does "delete account" do on damus? I wanted to remove my account from the app and I did this, but now when I try to add it back it says "deleted account, logout" ๐ข
Discussion
It deletes the user private key from the network
Damnit... Any way to reverse?! Thats not at all what I expected
Just edit your profile in snort. I heard it overwrites the deleted flag
fake news
Deleted mine. Canโt log in with that priv key anymore
It does not "delete the private key off the network" You cant delete a private key. You can reset it by resetting your profile event.
So what is it doing exactly? Just banning that priv key from using the app?
yes. Its an apple requirement. If your profile has the deleted flag it won't let you log in with it
Interesting. How do you reset a profile event
Damn... Ive redone my profile in snort, but still when I try to login to damus it says "Deleted Account".
I guess I can't use Damus anymore with my account...
you just have to remove the deleted flag from your kind0
Its really hard to get an app on apple store. But we are lucky that you have Will power to do that ๐ฅ๐
i guess the "report" thing is also a requirement, right?
I think this is a weird interpretation of apples requirement. The current โdeleteโ feature does not delete anything, quite contrary it stores your npub and bans it, nothing I would expect from the word โdeleteโ! I think we should put our heads together and find a better way to fulfill Appleโs requirement!
I suspect that the Apple requirement is targeted at central services and require that your account on the central server is deleted, which does not make sense in the context of Nostr.
Apple does not require that deleting an account in some email app deletes your hotmail/whatever account - nor that your account is banned.
Actually, Appleโa requirement is not actually met, it is just โsimulated to be metโ.
It says: โPeople expect that all data associated with their account will be deleted when the account is deleted. This includes user-generated content thatโs shared with others, such as photos, video, text posts, and reviews.โ
Difficult if not impossible to solve in the context of Nostr. ๐ค
Maybe it would help to add in the app description, that Damus is ONLY a frontend to the decentral Nostr network. Nostr is not even mentioned, the App description conveys that Damus is a network of its own. Maybe thatโs the problem?
Sir a private key is private. It canโt be on the โnetworkโ.
