Pretty much. I use a similar device just to use when it's bright outside. People will struggle to use as a daily driver.

Remarkable seems good for just reading, drawing and making notes. This display is faster so different experience, more versatile with OS that won't be locked down and ability to add apps (also no subscription service like Remarkable), and Remarkable can't be used in the dark without an external light source, whereas Daylight has amber light.
Ability to ad apps does not go well with "distraction free".
So the only thing that it does better is thats a faster display. On the other hand it is less distraction free. And all at a cost thats higher than competitor ones.

How does it match up with the remarkable 2?
Different display technology is the biggest. Remarkable 2 uses e-ink (like Kindle) where Daylight uses reflective LCD tech. Advantage to RLCD is it is super fast (you can actually watch videos, scroll and zoom are better). While eink has improved, there is still some lag. Also, remarkable 2 doesn't have any kind of light, where Daylight has very tiny perforations allowing them to light the screen from behind in an amber color (no blue light). This is different from Kindles that use tiny lights in the edge that shine onto the eink.
On software side Daylight is looking to be more open (founder said they will offer root kits) where Remarkable seems very closed (even has a subscription service for cloud storage and syncing). Daylight is version of Android so you can load in all kinds of apps if you want.
I hope you can duplicate the remarkable experience and improve on it in several key ways. I have 4 in the house for homeschooling. They are terrific because it is basically just a slate like the old days. A slate with a memory. No distractions for the kids, not figuring out software, just writing and learning.
Where remarkable falls down is that I can't easily transfer their work to mine for correction. Fix that without losing the simplicity and I'll take the hit to spring for a batch. Allow me to collaborate/grade peer to peer with no subscription and we'll be friends for life.

No. I am interested in the supernote, but I actually like the no apps approach remarkable takes. I was part of an experiment with giving students a laptop in college for linear algebra. I nearly failed that class as a result. Technology generally gets in the way of education. Not to say kids shouldn't learn tech, I am a programmer after all, but most of the time it needs to stay out of the way.
Thanks for the insight. I've been using the Remarkable 2 for about 6 months now and I like it, but there are some quirks that are becoming more irritating for me. The marker tips are very fragile. I'm a very hard writer and need to learn to lay off the pressure a bit while using it versus pen and paper which for the most part can take a beating ๐คฃ

I won't run a googled device sadly. Privacy is more important than anything else for me.
Why I zapped 420,000 sats:
I've been following Daylight and listening to their podcast appearances for awhile and came to a few conclusions:
- The founder and team are genuine. It is rare to see someone (especially in tech) be truly driven by what they believe in, not just a platitude they say but then secretly hate their customers and work.
- If you want to see the world change in ways you would like, you have to step up yourself and support those people, products, services. This is what I love about Nostr and about this idea from Daylight. You can't just sit back and expect others to do it for you.
- I have kids, I want them to grow up and harness the amazing power of our technology, but not be destroyed by it. This may be part of the solution.
- I also want to see a more decentralized world, where people have control over their time, devices, data
I did not zap this amount to win a discounted tablet - of course it would be great but this is an amount that I feel comfortable completely giving away to boost the company on Nostr and with others. Proof of work, proof of conviction, putting actual value behind your words and opinion.

seems I'm getting a "max limit" from Daylights address, even after trying to break it up into smaller payments.
I wanna say nostr:npub12vkcxr0luzwp8e673v29eqjhrr7p9vqq8asav85swaepclllj09sylpugg might be your limiter. I think I remember reading thereโs a max to your Primal wallet before it politely suggests you self custody. I could be wrong

I've been using the Remarkable 2 for about 6 months now and I like it but again some quirks. I take a tremendous amount notes daily for my job and I would love to give this a try but the $800 price tags a bit too much for me. Is there any way to demo this for a little bit and give you some honest feedback from a heavy user?
