A raspberry pi 5 8gb costs $70. A 32gb sd card is $10 bucks. Umbrel and Start9 are open source. Running a full bitcoin node costs you less than $100. Please consider running a node.

Yes Sr ! 🫑😎⚑️🍷

is there anyone that runs bitcoin core on an SD card?

id be surprised if it could get through IBD

full node is obviously not possible maybe a pruned node but the point is the entry barrier is really low.

its not the storage requirement thats the problem with using an SD card

it's the sustained read/write during initial block download(which pruned nodes still have to complete) most SD card readers use controllers which arent suitable for that as they are mostly designed around phones or cameras for lower end devices

The chain size is 747.34 GB

meant to say running umbrel on sd card. not full bitcoin node on 32gb.

It's going to be a pruned node

Yeah maybe get some harddisk. But they aren't expensive these days anymore.

yes, you can run a pruned node also but 32gb was for running umbrel not a full node.

Just talking about this to young chap who fixes computers and things and suggested as sideline business. Figured biggest cost is the drive but maybe that’s cause I only ran full nodes. Assume this is cheapest pruned correct?

exactly! also hdd doesn't really cost much these days either.

Yeah if trying to get a few people in Costa Rica to consider it and also learn, need to make it bare bones cheap. I was also wondering if could get local artisans to make some really nice crafted hardwood cases and do something a little tico pura vida. Once have finished moving house and am a little more settled, may see if there’s potential. So in your opinion, no need to go full SSD? Sorry for dumb questions but I am not technical at all. Wanted my own nodes to support network and went easy option. One start9 out of the box and a Linux Ubuntu easy set up with Umbrel. I literally just run them both to add to the network and do my personal as I simply don’t have time to dig into the weeds

Another nice option is to buy second hand PCs, like the Thinkpad m700. A cheap 1TB ssd is around 60-70)

a few of my nodes are actually cheap refurbished pcs. 🀣

I can't stop myself from buying cheap refurbished PCs πŸ˜„

lmao, same!
