I'm going to tell my friends tonight that I'm uninstalling FB Messenger and if they wish to talk to me, they're going to need to install SimpleX 👀 I only keep FB Messenger around for them and I absolutely hate FB using my data. Wish me luck.

Is SimpleX compatible with CB messenger? I haven’t really followed much into it. Kind of having my hands full with Nostr 😁

I did this maybe 2-3yrs ago and most of my friends think ive exited society or something. Its quite odd
I mostly left FB back in 2020 or so, but from time to time post about something Bitcoin or Nostr related via the web app 😂
I need to just nuke the whole thing altogether, but I also don't want some scammer to get my name as I've had it since like 2008.
Similar experience for me when I delete all my socials and said I didn’t have WhatsApp anymore… my family and friends thought I’d lost the plot

Been trying to delete it myself. Family is what’s keeping me from doing so. Maybe the hard way is to just do it and then force them to follow.
I'm the exact same I hate Facebook messenger using my data I hate Facebook full stop we need to be careful Nostr doesn't turn into a Facebook type app people blocking and unfollowing people I thought we were all plebs I've never felt more of an outcast on any app but I'm really starting to here.

My family uses Signal, but outside of a couple friends, most use FB Messenger because they're big FB users.
I was also a FB user but I haven’t seen countries where FB messenger is relevant still today. Are you from the states? For some weird thing I found friends from the state that use it
There are many groups on Facebook to classifieds and hobbies/meetups. It's hard to get away from it.
I know and by the way, I’m the admin of a FB Group “bitcoin Argentina” with 80k members but nowadays I don’t think anybody uses FB messenger as default other than specific things and 99% people use WhatsApp (no one use text messages)
FB owns WhatsApp so what's the difference?

Good luck. I totally understand the pain there. Deactivated all meta apps except for Messenger as it is the only way I communicate with oldies and family members old for installing a new app. Not sure how to replace it yet.
Did that in 2021, FB and whatsapp deleted. Signal or call/sms to reach me. It's liberating.

Good choice! But you will probably face hard time doing it… in my experience, many people do not care anything about privacy and they prefer to use the most convenient / most used shitty apps… it’s been years since I completely erased FB, FB Messenger, Instagram, Google, WhatsApp from my phone and I only use Signal and now SimpleX for communication! Someone followed me… many didn’t… but I do not care! 🤙💪
