Okay you tech geeks... I'm looking to start some local groups and events, as always looking for FOSS over big tech. Went down the rabbit hole of alternatives to meetup or fecesbook and found this.
I'm wanting to get my own server this year and would love to self host something. Anyone else heard of this or have something else as an alternative to meetup?

I'm going to put startos on an old PC and self host a SimpleX chat server. They may have something suitable:
